With the introduction of Kindle Fire in 2011 Amazon surprisingly entered into the tablet market. After two years of Kindle Fire lineup Amazon comes with HDX. HDX 8.9 is a brand new device with Fire OS “Mojito” 3.0 on a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor.

The best part of the HDX is its tech support. It comes with its own support team built into the tablet. Surely HDX is a tough competitor to iPad Mini and Nexus 7 interms of price.

Build Quality

HDX 8.9 build quality is decent, you feel soft touch when you hold it. The body finishing is leaps away from aluminium body finished iPad Air or Mini. Besides finishing HDX 8.9 is extremely slim and light weight. Literally it is lighter than iPad Air, and weighs just 13.2 ounces.

HDX 8.9 has excellent IPS LCD of Full HD resolution 2,560-by-1,600, 339 pixel-per-inch 8.9-inch display with rich colors. It has dual-band Wi-Fi with a MIMO antenna and comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants.

Performance wise Amazon has taken good step by Snapdragon 800 processor with coupling four Krait 400 CPU cores running at up to 2.3GHz with an Adreno 330 GPU. This is one of the best Android hardware configuration till the date. Battery performance is also good, it gives complete usage for nearly seven hours.

The HDX 8.9 runs Amazon’s Fire OS “Mojito” 3.0, it is an Android based OS with capability of running third-party Android apps. The drawback of Fire OS is it don’t support Google apps and Google Play Store access.

The best part is the OS section is its innovative tech support system. If you have any doubt regarding the device or app query just ask to Mayday service, a service rep will solve your query or problem instantly.

The user interface is much similar and easier for Kindle users. The main carousel represents the recently used content and apps in a big sized icons style. The Control panel includes the Silk Browser, Email, Help, Kindle Free Time, Camera and Shop Amazon.

In my point of view I feel bit awkward when taking a picture using a tablet. But people in these day’s are taking photos with iPads and 10 inch tabs. HDX will definitely adds as a new entry in this section with 8MP camera. The Kindle Fire HDX 8.9’s camera is capable of panoramic shots. The picture quality is good and panoramic shots will shot only in low resolutions, this is a drawback for good imaging view.

Connectivity wise it has LTE, which is a very fast internet connection support. Wi-Fi is as usual Amazon is used same technology in HDX 8.9. Speeds are good and streaming content starts instantly.

It has guts to enter into the tablet battlefield, but in some cases it lacks the pace with others. Overall it is a decent performer of its kind.
