If you accidently deleted the default Google search engine in your Chrome, it is not easy to put it back especially for the beginners. So, we’ve found a solution to help you do so. In this article, we are going to provide the complete steps for resetting your search engine back to Google.

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Navigate to settings in the hamburger menu.
  3. Click on “Manage Search Engines…” button under Search section.
  4. Now, under Other search engines section, you will see three columns. Fill them as follows.
    Add new search engine: Google
    URL with %s in place of query: {google:baseURL}search?q=%s&{google:RLZ}{google:originalQueryForSuggestion}{google:assistedQueryStats}{google:searchFieldtrialParameter}{google:bookmarkBarPinned}{google:searchClient}{google:sourceId}{google:instantExtendedEnabledParameter}{google:omniboxStartMarginParameter}ie={inputEncoding}
  5. Now hover the created line and click on the “Make default” button.
  6. Now, the search engine has successfully changed to Google.

Now, you can continue browsing the internet from your favorite Google. The search engine changes usually happens due to the malicious programs or applications installed on your computer. So, if the search engines are being reset without any manual actions, you could better run a complete malware search. A complete scan using an effective antivirus can fix the problem.
