In case you didn’t know, Umi branded smartphones have a well-deserved reputation for exceptional toughness and durability. Am even told -and somewhat believe- that some are worn in lieu of bulletproof vests by a few law enforcement agencies!
Well, a new Umi smartphone just arrived from muscle beach, descriptively known as the Umi Diamond X. From available pictures on the company website, the phone looks absolutely premium, encased in a metal frame with curved edges like the waist of a belly dancer. The body curve and aluminum metal frame finish enables you to savagely grip the device and use it as a hammer around the home if you so wish. But don’t quote me on that!
The display is a 5-inch 1280 x 780 beauty that manages to be crisp while producing natural-looking colors. The screen sports dual scratch and shock resistant T2X-1 glass said to be capable of surviving a drop of up to 1.5 meters. Though if you do intentionally drop it from such a height, I promise to sue you or second-degree assault!
Under the hood, you get a 64 Bit MediaTek MT6737 Quad-Core chipset clocked at 1.3GHZ, together with 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM and a Mali-T720 GPU. Battery juice is a 2650 mAh Sony Li-Polymer battery with up to 13 days of standby time. Internal storage is 16GB, which is readily expandable via SD card to 128GB. The OS is the Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Cameras are an 8MP primary shooter with LED flash and a miserly 2MP selfie-enabler. Connectivity options include dual -micro- sim dual standby, Wifi 802.11, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS +AGPS. Gravity, Distance, Light, and a Hall switch sensor complete the rest of the cast. The phone will be available in White, Black and Gold offerings.
Prices and availability are currently unknown but will be updated soon.
