No matter if you are new to MacOS or have been familiar with it for quite a while, chances are you will come across numerous issues and concerns at some point. While it won’t be too big of a problem for a regular user, if you have to use your Mac for work pretty much 24/7, you may have some productivity issues here.
Luckily, there are plenty of ways to enhance your productivity. It is not a big deal if you can’t find library on Mac, don’t know how to organize your files efficiently or just can’t master the essential features of MacOS. That’s why we are here! In this article, we are going to tell you about some simple tricks that will turn your Mac into a useful tool and boost your workflow even when you are on the go.
Creating Custom Shortcuts
This feature gives you numerous benefits in terms of productivity. MacOS allows users to create custom key combinations for quick access to any app. To create a new shortcut for an application follow these steps:
- Go to App Shortcuts and click the “+” icon to create a new one;
- Select the application you would like to add;
- Title your new shortcut;
- Go to Keyboard Shortcut and enter the combination you would like to use to launch a particular application;
- Save changes.
Similar way, you can create unique shortcuts for different actions you perform regularly. This will save you lots of time and boost your workflow. To create combinations for other actions, you need to go to menu > System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts.
Drag Text From One App To Another
Forget about regular copy paste because dragging the needed text straight to another app is way more convenient! All you need to do is to highlight the piece you want to copy, click on it and hold as you move it from one application to another.
Make Multitasking Simple
Do you often have to work with two different apps at the same time? Then, instead of hopping from one tab to another, you can split the screen of your Mac into two sections and work with both apps simultaneously. This feature is incredibly handy, but it is quite tricky to activate. To split your screen you have to open the apps you need, hold on the green button located in the upper left corner of one of the applications. As you hold to that button, the system will move the chosen tab to the left half of the monitor.
Watch Videos As You Work
Apple has introduced another handy feature that allows you to work and watch videos at the same time, with minimum distraction. Here is how to enable this mode:
- Play the video you’d like to watch
- Click and hold the Control button
- Click twice on the video
- Next, choose Show Controls
- Find the picture-in-picture icon located in the upper left corner
Just that easy! However, note that picture-in-picture feature may not be available for certain videos.
Adjust The Finder Directory
When you work more often within a specific folder, it is a good idea to set it as the default for Finder. This way, each time you open a new Finder, it will take you straight to the chosen directory. For example, you most often work with the Documents folder, here is how you can set it as default:
- Open Finder
- Go to Preferences
- Click on General
- In the new window, choose Documents
- Close the window
