It’s not hidden that, Microsoft owns a major part of the contributions to the tech world. The software giants had recently taken over the Nokia and given a rebirth to the once best company. The Microsoft Lumia series was a great success even not that much as the android devices. The entry level smartphones produced by the Lumia series got a big welcome on the industry. The company is producing cheap high-end smartphones for entry-level users to the high-end ones.

Lumia 550 is a budget device with some entry level features like 1GB RAM and a 1.1GHz processor. The 4.7-inch screen is a medium level one to begin with. There is more on the specs sheet including the latest LTE connectivity. This rectangular smartphone is more capable than just a smartphone. Apart from the traditional android devices, the windows 10 features a PC-like environment on the Lumia devices. Microsoft Lumia 550 Design

Microsoft approached a clean and simple design in all of their Lumia devices. The 550 is not far different from this. The device measures  136.1 x 67.8 x 9.9mm in 3 different dimensions. The 9.9mm thickness may sound a little higher than the siblings, but it only weighs about 142g. The curvy edges and the flat front and back sides provide a better grip on the device even in oily conditions.

The front portion of the device is dominated by the 4.7 inch HD LCD display which covers almost of the front part to provide a better visual experience on the display. The front camera is placed above the screen while the navigation buttons are on the bottom. A flat screen with smooth touch can provide a better touch experience on it. While flipping the device, there is a Rounded camera sibling with a flash and a windows logo on the bottom. The speakers are placed as a dot on the bottom right corner of the back cover. There is nothing more than these to see on the back cover.

The buttons, headphone jack and the micro-usb port are placed on the usual positions without any change. Lumia 550 has a matt finish which is not that much rough. The device is a royal and a clean one to have a hand on it on the meetings and parties.

A 4.7 inch HD LCD display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 is placed on the front portion of the device. The colors are powered by a pixel density of 315ppi, which is quite necessary to bring high-quality visuals on the screen. The display features some great visual experience while on the games or videos. A gentle rendering quality can bring smooth transforms while on the games or while streaming videos. The display is saturated to give much more accurate texts and images on the screen. The better screen brightness and contrast are also a plus point which increases the visual experience.

Camera

The camera of the device is not big ones when compared to the competitors. A 5.0MP camera features on the backside while a 2.0 one on the front. The cameras can give a good image quality in normal light conditions. But fails to give a noise free picture in gloomy or high lighting conditions. The auto contrast and auto brightness correction features can’t work enough to give a better image quality. But the cameras are providing a decent image quality while on the normal lighting conditions. The Flash can provide some more lighting to the pictures. But not that much to provide a high quality image.

Performance and Connectivity

Performace of the Microsoft Lumia devices are unquestioned by anyone. The great factor which attracts the visitors to buy the Reborn Nokia devices is the performance. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 Quad-Core processor with 1.1GHz clocking speed, powering the device alongside with the 1GB RAM which handles the multi-tasking needs. The storage of 8GB is enough  to meet the normal requirements of the users. If you are out of storage, Microsoft surprise you with an external storage up to 200 GB which is an appreciatable feature while the normal devices limit the storage of maximum 128 GB.

The Lumia 550 is equipped with the Windows 10 OS which brings a PC like experience to the phone. Being the world leader in the OS industry, microsoft integrated their software product to their own smartphone to give a better integration between them. The latest 4G LTE feture is also a plus pont to the device. It includes all the basic connectivity solutions like 3g, 2g, wifi, bluetooth, etc… All in all the building blocks of the device are carefully stitched one another to build a good smartphone.

Battery

The 2100mAh battery is not enough to feed the device whole day. We are disappointed with the video playback of the device because it dead within 5 or 6 hours of the continuous video playback. So, being a great device on the market, the Lumia must try to bring some good amount of battery to provide a better fuel tank on the device to ensure the device lives, at least a day long in regular usage.

Microsoft Lumia 550 is a budget friendly smartphone. A few disabilities like low battery capacity and the low-quality camera are pulling the device backwards. But the performance of the device is quite explainable. We can’t say it as a value for money because there are so many other devices powered by android are available at the same price with some more features. If you really love windows 10 devices, Microsoft Lumia is a good smartphone to choose. So, you may give it a try.
