Logitech MX Anywhere 2 Review

Logitech MX Anywhere 2 Review

The Logitech MX Anywhere 2 was created for those who despise -and deservedly so- touchpads with all their inaccuracy, inefficiency, and frustration galore. A remake of the original MX Anywhere, it’s absolutely fab in action and a triple Olympic gold medalist at what it does.

Not a fan of touchpads on computing devices? You aren’t alone, not by a long, itsy bitty shot. Touchpad troubles aplenty have plagued generations of computing users with no end in sight. Solutions do exist though apart from smashing your computer to the ground in a wild rage or giving it to the dog as a new toy to play with. The solution comes in the form of a furry whiskered, long tailed -or tailless- mouse. Some rather excellent ones of which are manufactured by Logitech.

Now Logitech definitely needs no intro where accessories are concerned.  Six years or so ago they released the MX Anywhere, and let me tell you that was a rather excellent and award-winning piece of work and engineering. Now, concerned that the original MX was showing grey hairs and perambulating around with a walking stick when rivals were releasing competing products that were comparatively jumping around like jackrabbits, it updated and considerable improved its wireless and mousy piece of work to give it a new lease of life and further tie it more securely to your heart -and pocket- strings.

Inside the box you get the Logitech Anywhere MX 2, Logitech Pico Unifying Receiver, micro-USB cable and user documentation. The design is premium eye-candy that looked at frontally and sideways with a lil’ imagination could be likened to a supercar about to hit the tracks. Its surprisingly small and able to fit into your paws with acres of space to spare. Which might present problems for those with serving dishes-hands like my editor. As to be expected, the Logitech MX Anywhere 2 utilizes proprietary Darkfield laser technology with precision ranging from 400 -1600 dots per inch, which can be preset as desired. Which is more than adequate if you aren’t using it for piloting alien craft in some space video game or morphing into Rambo mode in Call Of Duty. One of the better things that we came to love about this mouse was its supreme ability to perform its magic on any and i mean any surface. That’s scary and thrilling to watch.

Button wise, the mouse disappointed me though as I was expecting it to be super-laced with enough buttons to make the cockpit of the Starship Enterprise look like a toy craft. Instead, just a handful of buttons -with rather excellent tactile feel- were waiting for me.  You get just a left and right clicker, as well as two thumb buttons and a middle clicker positioned just above the scroll wheel. Like the Logitech MX Master, the MX Anywhere 2 comes with two speed-adaptive scrolling modes that permits effortless shifting from either click-to-click mode to light-speed fast scrolling with just a button press.

The Logitech MX Anywhere 2 definitely has no shortage of suitors, sorry connectivity options. These range from wired or wireless USB(via dongle) and bluetooth. The wireless bluetooth option is additionally compatible with Logitech’s Unifying receiver. And pairable with up to three separate devices and you can effortlessly switch between them using the Logitech Bluetooth Easy-Switch button on the bottom end of the mouse. Unlocking all the goodies of the MX 2 is only possible though if Logitech’s software is installed. This is thankfully easy as pie as the software needed is in the mouse itself and installable via either bluetooth or USB, whatever is your poison. While range with bluetooth is 10 meters.

The battery is a rechargeable 500mAh Li-Po good for around 2 months of average use and not user-replaceable, with just 4 minutes of charging getting you through the day. Charging is done via provided micro-USB, and you can employ the mouse while charging it.

A one-year limited hardware warranty comes included, while the price is Rs. 6,995 and absolutely worth it, seeing as it’s near impossible to say a bad word about this particular Logitech beauty.
