Logitech K780 Multi-Device Wireless Keyboard Review

Logitech K780 Multi-Device Wireless Keyboard Review

I remember when I had my first PC like fifteen years ago, and I also got my first keyboard and a mouse. However, the keyboard was a little heavy for me, and it was way too big so I had to use it very often to get used to it. Ah, those were the times. Now, the keyboards are getting smaller, thinner and more capable than those old-school pieces of chunks and Logitech is again here to prove that they are a valuable manufacturer of keyboards with their new Logitech K780 Multi-Device Wireless Keyboard.

But wait, what does all of these names before ‘Keyboard’ means? Is that some fancy stuff put on this keyboard? Does it have great features? And what about design? I know you have a lot of questions, so I’ll stop wasting your time and will review the design for you.

Logitech K780 Design

To be honest, I was very surprised to see the keyboard looking this great. I must say that it’s one of the best looking keyboards I’ve ever seen. Let’s start with the size. The keyboard comes in, let’s say, average size with 15 inches in width, 6.2 inched in depth and 0.3 inches height. If you ever wondered how a keyboard could be just 0.3 inches tall… well just take this keyboard in your hands. As I said, K780 is an average-sized keyboard, being even heavier than most full-sized keyboards, despite its low height.

The main attraction here is, you’ve guessed it, the keys. Traditional keyboards tend to have those square keys, that are not-that-original. Here, in Logitech K780, they are replaced with oval, slightly concave keys,  giving you the impression of an old-school typewriter. The build quality is solid, although not impressive, and it’s built of dark gray plastic, which is hard enough to keep your keys protected. On the front of the keyboard, there is a tray where you can put the devices that you can use on your keyboard.

The great thing about this keyboard is that it supports up to three devices, where the Microsoft’s iteration supports only two. Applause for Logitech, great job! As it’s a wireless keyboard, on the back, there is a compartment for two AAA batteries and Logitech Unifying USB dongle, which supports up to seven Logitech devices. To wrap it up for the design, it looks fantastic, although it’s not that light, even being hard to carry it around unlike some other wireless keyboards, at least for me.

Logitech K780 Multi-Device Wireless Keyboard Keys

Keys on the keyboard are like wheels on a car. In Logitech K780’s case, keys work really well, but being oval and concave keys, you’ll need a little time to get used to it, and having a little space between the keys is a great addition, reducing the chance to make a mistake in typing. As my job is all about typing, I was generally pleased with how well it performed. Keys are responsive enough, and that is very important, as this is a wireless keyboard. In some of my past experiences, some keyboards had a problematic amoung of lag input, but this one is perfect for that term.

Now, about keys in general. Here, the things are getting a little uncomfortable because the keyboard layout is changed from a classic layout we all know well. First, there is no NUM lock, which might seem not-that-important, but the thing is that you can use num-pad for other stuff other than typing numbers. And now that there isn’t a NUM-lock key, you can say ’Goodbye’ to it. Using caps lock is also a bit tricky as there isn’t a status indicator, so you won’t even know when your caps lock is turned on or off!

And last but not least, the keys are not backlit. This isn’t essentially a con, but I like my keyboard to be slightly backlit, so I could type better in the dark. And why do I say it isn’t exactly a con? Well, because it’s a wireless keyboard, so the battery could be easily drained if the light was constantly turned on when you use it, and if you are a heavy user then the things would get more complicated.

Logitech K780 Features

One of the key features of this keyboard is design, which majority of users will like. Also, the battery life is really impressive, and being a keyboard without backlight, the battery will last even longer. The keys are beautiful and the overall feeling pressing them is fantastic. Anyway, here are some of the most important features:

Beautiful design

A beautiful design, combined with a refined plastic gives you a soft touch to your keyboard and a great comfort while using it.

Great battery life

The most important factor when it comes to wireless keyboards is a battery life. And here, you’ll get it several months of usage without the need to charge or change a battery.

Support for up to three devices

Up to three devices are supported in this keyboard, meaning that you can now use it on your smartphone, laptop, tablet or any other device you desire.

Wireless feature

This feature makes the keyboard a little less robust and increases its functionality. Plus, you don’t need to use the cable which could take a space on your work desk, or be afraid not to pull it accidentally.

Non-backlit keys

Non-backlit keys arent’ something that you’re going to either like or dislike. I got used to non-backlit keyboards, but backlit is always a welcome addition. Here, you won’t find it, which is a pity.

Verdict

With a price of little under $80, this keyboard looks and feels much more expensive. Its design is what will attract you to it, and being a wireless keyboard, you won’t have to worry about the place to put it down. You can now type while holding it in your lap or laying in your bed. However, the downsides here are the lack of traditional NUM-lock and caps lock indicator, so if you’re okay with that, then this is a VERY good choice for the money.
