Flickr Review

Flickr is one of the best free image hosting websites out there. It is basically a photo sharing website that let you upload your photos and share them with the community. If you don’t know already, Flickr is a service owned by Yahoo. Even if you didn’t visit the Flickr website even once, you might have heard about it at least once in your lifetime. If not, you might not be an internet person. Flickr has a huge collection of over 6 billion live photos in its database! Which is not a small number at all.

So, if you want to know more about the Flickr, this review will guide you through it. As we usually do, we will be analyzing the features and functions of the website and will provide our final take on the service. It will help you in comparing different image sharing services online. So, here is the Flickr review.

Flickr Interface

Flickr will not allow non-registered users to view their content. Once you visit their website without logging in to the Flickr account, you will see nothing but just a Signup button. But once you sign in, the real interface will open up with some ads and an Activity screen. You will see the featured images on the Flickr (if you are signing in for the first time) or your activities on the dashboard. Also, you can browse through the Flickr users and groups from other tabs on the interface.

When compared to other services like Imgur, Flickr interface doesn’t only meant to see the images on the website. You can find people, and join groups inside Flickr. As per the company, there are over 2 million groups on the website.

By clicking on an image, you can view the image as well as its description, favorites, comments, views, etc. One small drawback that we noticed is you have to close the current image in order to open a new one. Instead, if there was a slide like model to browse through the images, it would be a little easier for the users.

To upload an item to the Flickr, just use the cloud icon at the right part of the upper bar. Upon clicking on it, a new screen will be shown where you can drag and drop the desired images to upload to your Flickr profile. The upload process is very fast that you will never have to wait for long, even for the big image files.

Howering the mouse over the You, Explore, and Create options will show various sections of the Flickr. You can view the Groups, Albums, Galleries, Camera roll, Trending item, or Create new galleries, Photo books, etc. from these links.

All in all, the Flickr interface is good and has no problems in seamlessly using it for viewing, sharing, or downloading images. If you are into online photo viewing, sharing stuff, you should consider using the services like Flickr at least once.

Features of Flickr

While Flickr needs no explanation to state its dominance in the image sharing and hosting industry, there might be people who are interested in knowing more about it. So, for those people, we have incorporated a nice of the Flickr features. Have a look.

Camera Roll

This might be a familiar term for the iPhone users. For those who don’t have iPhones, it is basically sorting the images based on the date and time of the image taken and group them. But the real Flickr camera roll feature is not that. The images will be categorized into different sections like people, animals, landscapes, etc. automatically using the machine learning algorithm. Which means, if you have a lot of photos of yourself as well as some landscapes, you will never again have to browse all the way to find out your images.

In case you found a miscategorization in the any of the images, you can correct it yourself y simply editing or removing the automatically applied tag on the images. Fair enough? All of your Flickr uploads will be visible on the interface regardless of their visibility permissions. This allows you to organize all your uploads at a single place.

A Dedicated Profile Page

Like many other social media websites, Flickr also allows users to have a dedicated profile page where they can showcase their images. However, Flickr is not a portfolio site, so you may not be able to organize your profile as much you do on a real portfolio website. You can add a cover photo to your profile, add some info regarding yourself and build a good profile on the website. Considering the huge traffic that the Flickr receives, having a good profile on Flickr is also worthy.

An Advanced Search

Flickr comes with some advanced search features. Especially, the filters will help you to find the exact image that you are looking for. You can filter the Flickr images by color, orientation, size, date taken, tags, etc. It will help to save a ton of time that would have wasted by browsing through all those images to find out a single one. We tried the search to find out many images and every time we got the right image that we were looking for. So, Flickr search definitely worthy to be tried.

Flickr Photo Editor

Want to edit your photos right on the Flickr? No worries, Flickr’s new photo editor allows users to crop, resize their photos, add texts, frames, effects, and borders, and do a lot more. The photo editor is so elegant that it can compete with any other online photo editing tools. After editing, just save the photo, and the changes will reflect immediately. But one thing we noticed is it is a little difficult to find the Flickr photo editor. You can only find it by going to the individual image view and clicking on Edit > Edit with Flickr photo editor.

A Great Community

Above all of the features listed above, it is a great community to share, learn, and explore thousands of creations and images by thousands of people all around the globe. You can find people, join groups, and dissolve with the Flickr community. A great place to socialize yourself.
