Vivo Nex Review – Imperfectly Perfect Phone

Vivo Nex Review

Vivo has finally launched something which has changed the real mean of the industry. Vivo in the recent past has been following the same old tactics of budget devices in high pricing. With the launch of Vivo Nex, it is quite clear that Vivo has done quite a research and have the best of the things in the industry. Today let us see if Vivo with its all-new device can succeed, also if the device will be capable of doing a long run in the real world situation. Let us head to the review:

Design & Build

The phone comes with an ultra-futuristic design where there is no front camera visible, almost no bezels and is mainly was a concept unit which made to reality. We see a unique design from Vivo, without adopting the other companies notch model. Even the phone is having no fingerprint scanner visible as it is mainly under the display of the device, something which fake apps on Google Play have been showing in the past.

Starting with the design the phone comes with an 18:9 ratio display and no notches. On the back, we have a vertical dual camera unit, along with a dual tone flash, NEX and Vivo branding at the back. The phone is curved which gives it a good ergonomic feel. The back glass shifts the color on the angle you view hence it makes it look gorgeous.

The front camera on the phone is hidden under the frame, which pops from the front as you launch the front camera application. This makes the phone looks slim and really thin and have all the best of the hardware. As far as the build is concerned. The Vivo NEX is built from open of the toughest materials on earth. Even the phone looks and feels solid, at the same time the camera mechanism, also looks like the best on the earth one.

Display

This device comes with a 91.24% screen to body ratio, and the screen unit comes with a ratio of 18:9. The unit on the Vivo NEX is an AMOLED one and it makes it stand out from the competition. Display resolution falls a bit at just Full HD+ although in the day to day usage it is not visible, you can notice the same due to the 6.6 – inch display while watching a particular video.

The phone comes with a Gorilla Glass protection both on the front and on the back. The embedded fingerprint scanner doesn’t interfere with the display and for most of the part, the color reproduction and viewing angles of the device are well defined.

Performance

Performance is no concern when we have the Qualcomm’s latest top of the line Snapdragon 845 chipset. The same SoC is rocking on the most of the flagship device this year. More or less the same performance will be found with the device. The phone comes paired with 8Gigs of RAM which is more than enough to deliver a buttery smooth performance.

The phone has a 256GB chip to store all the photos, apps and other nicks and knacks. Overall the handset was quite smooth and the UI was also snappy. There was no issue in handing the UI due to poor optimization. It seems that the phone will have a great time in one’s hand. Even in gaming, there are no such lags, and it can drive most of the heavy games without any issue. Even the Asphalt 8, PUBG, & Modern Combat can run easily with High and Ultra High graphics levels.

Camera

The phone has one of the best selfie cameras out in the market. The camera is not visible to the front when the device is on standby but will pop up as you launch the front camera. You will not have to worry about the pop-up duration as it takes less than 2 seconds to be ready. The unit is an 8MP one with an aperture of f/2.0. On the back we have a dual camera unit which rocks a 12MP and a 5MP unit, this makes each sensor to have a great view and can blur the background based on the system.

The camera has different modes which also includes a beauty mode and a number of different artificial intelligence filters that make your pictures look somewhat same as the one you find on Snapchat. Vivo has been known for amazing pictures from the device, and this time also its no difference. We can get some amazing pictures of amazing picture controls. Although at the end of the day we will have to post on social media, and you can easily flaunt your phone with the embedded watermark feature.

Battery

Device rocks a 4000 mAh battery, but it does have quite a few first-time technologies on the mobile phone, like the motorized camera, an under the display fingerprint scanner. All these can actually eat up a lot of battery. Although Vivo claims that with the camera unit the battery will not be suffered, obviously we are going to get a difference at the end of the day, when the motor starts to degrade.

Currently, the phone is giving a battery life of more than 16Hrs which makes it a nice day long unit. The phone at the end of the day be left with just 20 to 25% battery, so to be on a safer side, give the device a charge so that you reach home safely without the need of keeping the phone in ICU.

Verdict

No doubts that the phone is a great piece of innovations. But with a lot of technology the phone can fail any bit of time, which will be tough to repair. The device has a great feature hidden the front camera, which if fails you might be troubled with the warranty. Other than that the phone is a great unit, and is good for those you like to test all the latest features with the best of devices.
