OPPO Find X Review – A Motorized Sliding Concept Smartphone

Oppo Find X Review

Oppo in the recent past has been launching the Find series of devices which were the best of products from the company. Find 5 Oppo made it clear that they know how to innovate, as it was the first FHD mass production device in the history. Second, came the Oppo Find 7, it was the first device with VOOC Charging, which is similar to OnePlus’s Dash Charging, and also had a spectacular list of specifications.  Today let us see if Oppo Find X really have that X-factor to make through the best devices of the lot.

Design & Build

This is another best in design smartphone from BBK electronics, the first one was the Vivo’s NEX where it had a bezel-less display with a hidden camera. With the Oppo Find X, we get the rear and front camera both hidden inside the frame, and the frame rises when you operate any of the cameras. The design on the front is all screen with a slight of the chin at the bottom. On the back, the curved glass gives the device an amazing look. The colors fade from one side to another, these color shifts look good on the device.

Overall the phone is built on a glass and metal design language. The phone feels tough in hand and durable too. The downside of the phone will be the motorized mechanism for the camera, which if fails will make the phone unusable for camera work. This will be a worry till any motor capable of working continuously for more than 5 years is manufactured.

Display

The Oppo Find X happens to have an AMOLED panel to showcase the stuff. The screen is a 6.42-inch unit and comes with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels which is FHD+. The phone gets an 18:9 ratio display which is as per the latest trend. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass protection which will help you save your device from minor scratches and falls.

Overall the display on the Find X looks good, and we get an amazing color reproduction from the panel. Saturation levels and contrasts are also quite good as per the AMOLED Levels. The phone also gets a custom panel where you can customize the look and feel of the display. The device is quite legible in the bright sunlit, and even during the night time the phone can get really dim which will protect your eyes from getting strained.

Processors

The device gets the top of the line processor from Qualcomm the Snapdragon 845. It is further assisted by an 8GB RAM Unit and 256GB of Internal Storage. Overall the phone performs really well when it comes to the daily life performance. The phone gets a custom UI over the stock android. This gives the device an overall new look. Color OS is one of the most well-treated OS due to its customization and unique look with respect to other custom UI.

Oppo Find X scored 298166 on AnTuTu which is better than most of the flagship devices of 2018. It was able to get through a score of 2391 in the single core while for multi-core it achieved 6216, although the score is unbeatable by many of the flagships, there are still a couple of those who can easily surpass the performance of the phone.

Camera

On the camera front, the device is a unique as it gets both the front can rear camera as hidden units. On the back, we have a dual camera setup which has two different sensors at 16 MP and 20 MP respectively. The front camera on the phone is a 25MP unit which performs really well in the selfies. The rear camera has an excellent dynamic range, but at times the pictures get overexposed.

The front camera has to get the award for the best skin tone reproduction. One shortcoming of the device is about the time which the camera takes to launch. Although the camera unit pops up within 2 seconds, still the camera app takes around 4 to 5 seconds to make it up. The camera unit has a small slit left even when inside the device, and that makes that space to accumulate lint and dirt that makes the device looks quite dirty when you use the camera.

Battery

The phone gets a 3,730 mAh battery which is non-removable as always. Apart from that we also get VOOC Flash Charging which is same as Dash Charging, but this was invented much early than OnePlus One. The phone can easily produce more than 1 & ½ day of battery life this makes it quite good despite having a motorized system to use the camera.

The front camera can easily be used for facial recognition, but that way the device will just be made to around 1 day if you unlock the device around 20 – 30 times a day. Till now there is not more useful than that, but if you keep on unlocking the device every 10 minutes we don’t think the phone can live for more than half a day. But the VOOC Flash Charging will help you keep your device topped up every time.

Verdict

Oppo Find X is the next Find from Oppo. The Find name does suites the devices in this category, each and every device makes it quite unique. Find series from Oppo has always been costly and this time also it is priced on a higher side. If you are looking for a device with innovation then this is the device to head to.

The front of the device looks futuristic with all the technology embedded inside the device. Do have a look at the devices such as Nokia 8 Sirocco the old beast in the old clothes in today’s gen. If you are a brand freak then even the Samsung Galaxy S9 & S9+ is a great option. Do let us know which device will you be choosing the Oppo Find X or any other flagship?
