LG Q8 Review

LG Q8 Review

LG has been declining its sales with every device they are launching. They have been becoming with the choice of device they launch in India, and with LG Q8 they have launched another device which is going to set back the sales, due to its high pricing. Let us see this time if LG is going to have its luck with the LG Q8 and its performance or this time too LG is not having anything unique in the camera to boost its sales.

Design & Build

The device comes with the new language of design where we have the all-new display with the all-new screen ratio on the front with the top and the bottom bezels which complements each other in terms of size, keeping the phone looking aesthetically good. On the back, we have a glass design where we have a single camera on offer, the Q8 branding below the camera and fingerprint scanner unit, and towards the bottom center, we have the LG logo.

Talking about the build quality of the device, the device is a glass sandwich with metal chassis in the between. This gives the device a sturdy feel and the glass back makes the device feel premium in hand. The device also comes with Gorilla Glass 4 both on the front and the back making the device stand out in the performance of other low-quality glasses.

Display

On the front, we have a 6.2” display which comes with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 which counts to FHD+, while the ratio of the display happens to be 18:9 which is just according to the current display standards. There is no notch on the display which makes the phone to utilize the whole display without any issue. A panel is an LCD unit which degrades the quality of the picture. LCD displays even in the past have not been too great and same goes for the display unit on the LG Q8.

The picture produced by the phone is up to the mark, but when it comes to overall contrast level, and color sharpness there is a bit of mixing which one can observe. Even the colors produced by the panel are not so accurate, and there is no environment matching available as we can see with other units. However, there are provisions in the settings with which we can easily customize the colors produced by the phone with the temperature settings.

The display is quite legible in the daytime but during the night time, you can have issues with the brightness of the panel as it is too bright for pitch dark conditions. Even in the day under the sun, we cannot clearly see the display and you will have to find a shade to read what’s on the screen, although that can be minimized with the help of a matt screen guard protector, that is really tough to find one.

Performance

LG Q8 comes with a really mediocre processor with the Snapdragon 450 SoC which is found on the low-end devices around the price bracket of 10,000 INR. It gets the same GPU as the Adreno 506 which is found with the Snapdragon 400 series of chips. On the RAM front, we have 4Gigs of RAM on offer. Overall the specifications, especially on the performance side, are mix and match, and technically we cannot take most of the juice of some specs as other will be bottlenecking the performance theoretically and even practically.

LG Q8’s performance has been quite good in the day to day usage thanks to the RAM which was in plenty of quantity to keep almost each and every application in memory. But in day to day usage the phone did lag when there was a heavy task going on the phone, this was a downside, also if there was an intensive task in the background going on than the phone will tend to lag and it will not be a good experience to any kind of user.

Camera

LG Q8 is having something which is really unique as per the standards of the industry going on currently. The LG Q8 comes with a single 16MP sensor which is assisted by PDAF and LED Flash to shoot in dark. On the front end we have a 5MP sensor which is again a shock as per the standard, as on the back and even on the front, we don’t have any kind of secondary camera.

As far as quality is concerned the phone is able to churn out some great pictures with the current set of sensors. The color reproduction of the phone is quite great, and you can easily make out the sharpness easily by looking at the pictures. The front camera is equally sharp and you can easily get some good selfies from the device. Do note that you will not be getting good images both from the front and the rear camera during low lighting conditions.

Battery

Talking about the battery life the phone comes with a 3300mAh amount of battery, which is capable enough to store the juice of more than a day. As the phone comes equipped with a really low power chipset, it can easily be powered a whole day long without any issue, with even half the second day working with even a single time of power.

If you use the phone just for calling then you will be having the phone with you for at least 2 days without a single charge, but if you use for heavy social media, and heavy calling then at the end of the day you will have to charge up the device, while if you are a gaming maniac, and use the device to run any game which can work on the phone, then you will need to charge the phone after the gaming session.

Verdict

The device is a well-sorted package which is offered in 2018, but the package comes for a price, and according to the pricing of LG the package is not at all a great deal, although after a couple of price drops it can become somewhat good to understand the same, currently at this high price it is worthless to even think about going the product. The display unit of the phone is outstanding and even the multitasking performance of the phone is good, but the end point comes to be the price point which is set at a high point.
