Samsung Galaxy On8 Review

Samsung Galaxy On8 Review

Samsung from the past days has the same habit of naming all its child the same, this way there is a problem in recognizing the exact one we are referring to. Samsung launched the Galaxy On8 first time back in 2016, but recently they launched the Galaxy On8 refreshed version which they named as Galaxy On8 2018. Recently in the past 1 year, Samsung got up with some really great devices which many people went for despite them being having the mediocre hardware.

The main selling point of these devices was the build quality and the Touch Experience UI, which is famous from the days of TouchWiz. Today we are going to make out if the 2018 version of the Galaxy On8 is having some power to grab the market from the Chinese vendors.

Design & build

Talking about the design we have the same 18:9 ratio display at the front where on the top we have the usual set of camera, sensors, earpiece, etc. On the bottom chin, it is left empty, but the device looks asymmetrical due to the same, on the right and left side we have the usual set of buttons which are made up of metal, on the back we have the dual camera setup, with an oval fingerprint scanner.

The back of the phone is found to be metal, which again turns out to be unibody metal build, this makes the device to be sturdy. The unibody metal build helps you to get a better feel in the hand. The weight distribution of the phone is quite good and you can easily maintain the device in the hand for a long time.

Display

The phone comes with a 6 – inch display which is in the ratio of 18:9, also the resolution of the display is just 720 x 1480 which translates to HD+ display. This makes the phone to have a lower PPI, and hence we can also observe the display to have a good amount of contrast.

On the second hand, the display quality of the screen is quite good where the color reproduction and the contrast of the display unit are average, although we can find that the display has a quiet of color shifting towards the extreme angles which makes it a really average unit. As the phone is having quite good configurations we can easily say that display is going to be a factor where the phone will lack.

Overall the phone’s screen has the same Samsung structure of the contrasts, and saturation being at a higher side, hence the phone can become a great unit to watch your media. The Screen will limit the performance of the phone, as there are many games which will not be able to run at full resolution.

Performance

The mobile phone comes with the Snapdragon’s budget phone unit the Snapdragon 450 assisted by as 4GB RAM unit with 64GB of internal storage. There is another version of the phone which also comes with 3GB RAM and 32 GB of Internal storage. Overall the phone will be a good performer when it comes to the straight performance of normal calls, multitasking, and light gaming.

Galaxy On8 will surely lag on the heavy gaming part which is going to be a sure downside of the device, another downside of the device will be the heavy UI which the phone boosts, due to the UI customization of the phone is going to be great, and you can easily get the latest features. As the phone is new we can even expect Samsung to send in update atheist till Android P.

Its fact that the phone will not be able to handle a load of heavy gaming due to the processor and the GPU. Although you can do most of the tasks with the phone such as multitasking and using heavy apps such as photo editors and video editor from Adobe with ease. In case you are using the Video editor then you will have issues with the rendering time as it will be on the higher side.

Camera

At the rear, we have a 16MP and a 5MP dual camera which is assisted with AI, the two have different apertures where one have an f1.7 while the other has f1.9. These apertures make it a great shooter in typically any environment. The phone turns out to be a capable shooter and you can churn out great images with the help of the AI inside the software. Do note that the camera will do exceptionally well with the Samsung’s terms, as usual, we do not see such a great masterpiece from Samsung in this price bracket.

Even on the front Samsung have done a spectacular job with the 16MP front camera which comes with f1.9 aperture, another great number in photography levels. The front camera can even record 4K, but the downside will be there is no option to playback the same. Both the camera does exceptionally well when it comes to colors and saturation levels.

Battery

The Galaxy On8 happens to rock a 3500 mAh battery which gives the phone a leverage to be used in extreme conditions. With the chipset being an entry level one, it doesn’t eat up much power and can run on the really low juice. This means you can easily run the phone for a day and a half on nominal usage. But if you are going to use the phone like a real maniac then at the End of the Day you will have to charge the phone which will be sure downside of the mobile.

Verdict

Galaxy On8 is a capable device when it comes to pricing with the Samsung tag on the phone, even in the styling department the phone is able to do miracles with its Samsung design language. Performance of the phone even stands out quite good, and on camera, it has done a spectacular job. What do you think about the Galaxy On8?
