Nokia X6 Review

Nokia released the Nokia 6.1 Plus in India recently but technically it is the same Nokia X6 which was launched by Nokia in China. Both the devices are technically and aesthetically the same unit, so if we are reviewing anyone then we are reviewing the other one too. Nokia recently has been aggressive with the launch of their devices, and have got some of the masterpieces in the market which will surely be bargaining their success in the market. Out of all the devices, Nokia X6 or the Nokia 6.1 Plus is the best one which will actually be writing the success story in the mid-range devices.

Design & Build

Getting in view of the design on the front we have the glass slab which has a Nokia branding at the bottom bezel which is quite thick with respect to the other three bezels. The top of the screen side is having a notch which contains the front camera and the earpiece. For the back part we have a dual lens unit placed vertically in the center of the device, below that we have the fingerprint scanner, Nokia branding again, and at the very bottom, we have the Android One branding too.

Overall the phone is built quite well with the glass slabs both at the front and at the back. We have the metal chassis all around the device which gives it the basic structural strength. The size of the phone is quite perfect and one can easily hold the device in the hand, the silver or gold lining around the fingerprint scanner and around the buttons gives the phone a great aesthetic look. As far as the buttons placements go, we have the power button and the volume down button to the right and the sim card tray on to the left, on the bottom it comes the USB Type C port and the speaker and microphone grill.

Display

Nokia 6.1 Plus features a 5.8 – inch FHD+ resolution 19:9 ratio display. For the protection, we have Gorilla Glass 3 both at the front and at the back and this might not protect from the falls but will surely protect from the daily dose of scratches. The screen is quite good and it can be easily read under the harshest of the sunlight. The contrast ratio of the device is not up to the mark when we compare with the devices of the same price range, and even with some of the budget devices too. Color reproductions are quite good, but the blacks look a bit greyish and that makes the colors to shift.

Overall talking about the colors and vibrancy which is quite good for the device of the price range, what brings it down is the contrast ratios. During the night the display is quite bearing to the eyes and hence there is no issue with the usage of the phone at night time. The display will shine for most of the part, it will make you down especially in the colors so if you are color sensitive then this display unit is not for your taste.

Performance

On the performance front, Nokia has given a good chipset from Qualcomm the Snapdragon 636 SoC. It comes mated with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and this gives the device a great appeal in terms of performance to price ratio. The chipset is quite capable of performing the best of the jobs on the mobile phone. It comes with the Android Oreo but will soon be upgraded to the latest one the Android Pie, as it is launched under the Android One program.

As it is a stock android phone, using the device is a child’ play and there is no issue regarding multi-tasking in the device, you can easily multitask on the phone that too with more than 5 applications in the memory, although the 6GB variant must have launched in India and that has been the butter on the cake.

Another thing to note is that gaming performance of the device is not up to the mark and in heavy gaming the phone tends to heat up a bit with a couple of drop frames due to thermals of the device. Overall it is bearable for the price the phone is being offered at.

Camera

At the back unit, we have a 16MP primary sensor which comes with f2.0 aperture and 1.0µm pixel size which is in turn supported by Phase Detect Auto Focusing System. The secondary rear camera which is being used as a depth-sensing unit comes with a 5MP sensor and happens to have f2.4 aperture and 1.2µm pixel size. On the front unit, we have a 16MP selfie camera with f2.0 aperture and 1.0µm pixel size.

Talking about the real world performance, the phone fails to stand on its true specifications and it fails on that front. The phone fails to lock focus at night times and in dark situations which is the downside if you are someone who keeps on clicking images. Overall the device doesn’t have a satisfactory output considering the best in camera department reputation of Nokia.

Colors produced by the phone is not true to the tone, and at times even the contrast is not that great, a majority of the photos can be said vibrant but it’s not the case with all hence we cannot actually trust the overall photos of the device.

Battery

The phone is offered with a 3060 mAh battery and with the same capacity, the device can be run for more than 1 & ½ day. The major helping point here is the Snapdragon 636 which is a power efficient chipset. It can easily draw most of the games on the screen and give a fluent gameplay for most of the part and still be juicing the phone for over 3 hours constantly.

Although if you are into extreme gameplay then it can last for a maximum period of 2 & ½ hours. While if you are someone who wants to use the phone for normal social media task and for usual calling thing then it is a great phone. With the help of Quick Charge 3.0 technology embedded inside the device, you can easily power the device for around 5 hours with just 10 mins of charging although you will have to keep the phone down for those 10 mins.

Verdict

The Nokia 6.1 Plus is a great device although you will have to stay back in expectations in some of the portion. For the price factor of around 16000, the device is quite good, but Nokia must have kept the 6GB RAM variant also for those who wanted a bit more from the device in terms of performance and multitasking. Although even in the 4Gig variant it turns quite well.

The phone happens to be performing well in the performance department and also in the build quality, it lacks a bit in the camera and majorly in the display department.
