RealMe 2 Review

RealMe 2 Review

Oppo’s sub-brand known as RealMe have released their second device in the market. RealMe 1 was a huge success and most of the people liked the device despite it not having a fingerprint scanner. With the earlier device, Oppo was not able to make the hype that they demanded but still for the start it was quite great.

RealMe is another online brand coming from the BBK Electronics part, like Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, and RealMe are all from the same company. Talking about the new device, this time the RealMe 2 comes with a new set of feature out of which the highlighting one is the Notch, and this makes the RealMe 2 to be the cheapest device to come with a notched display, today we are going to see if this notch will make any difference on the phone, and will it be able to rock the latest app in the market.

Design & Build

Oppo has always been the best when it comes to designing devices, and same is the case with the RealMe, the first device also had an intimating design, and same goes with the RealMe 2, and it gets the best in terms of design.  With the notched display on the front, the device comes to the cheapest phone with a notched display, on the bottom of the display we have a slight chin which will be a bit of downside for the phone.

Coming to the back we have the same diamond design as it was the case with the last device, but this time we do have a fingerprint scanner which is shaped in oval and positioned in the center top position. When it comes to the camera unit, it happens to be on the top left side on the back. RealMe branding is on the bottom side of the phone. We have glass on the front and glass on the back, if you see the device with a precision you can find that the Oppo F9 pro and the RealMe 2 were designed side by side.

Build quality of the device on the upper side, and you can easily flaunt the device with other people as your phone will look more premium and much better when compared to other devices in the same range. There is a dual Nano sim slot along with a dedicated micro SD card for the people on the left, the volume button is also on the left, while on the right we have a single power button.

Display

RealMe 2 is offered with a 6.2 –inch HD+ display which comes with an amazing screen to body ratio of 88.8% the screen happens to have an aspect ratio of 19:9, but due to the HD+ resolution the PPI of the screen drops to 271 which is not that great as per today’s standards where the PPI of the phones can reach a max of 800ppi. The phone comes with software customizations to help you control the colors and contrasts of the display, but on the stock settings too the phone looks quite great.

Talking about the colors and the contrasts of the phone they are not up to the mark of the display, still for most of the part the customer can compromise based on the price factor we are dealing with. Specifically, the colors of the phone are not that punchy and you are for sure you will customize the screen as per your liking for the colors. Viewing angles on the phone are not that great, and you can easily see the screen with typically any angle without any blacking out or color shifting issues.

Performance

The device comes with Qualcomm’s latest budget ranged chipset the Snapdragon 450 supporting it is the Adreno 506 which is quite an old GPU. Supporting the chipset is 4Gigs of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which can be easily expanded up to 256GB with the help of a microSD Card. Although there is another variant of the device which comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Both the devices run on ColorOS 5.1 which is based on Android 8.1.0.

As far as performance is concerned, it is up to the mark and for most of the part, you can easily see the device handling most of the apps which are thrown on it. There are a number of different gestures which will help you in multitasking and ease of use. The phone will be able to run most of the games with ease which will even include most of the high-end games that are all due to the octa-core setup on the chip. It is just that the phone will not remain as efficient as the top of the line chipsets as it would on normal usage. Multitasking is also quite good on the 3GB RAM variant while the 4GB RAM variant of the phone comes with the added 1GB of RAM which will surely help the device to get it to the best in terms of performance.

Camera

Talking about the camera unit on the phone we have a single camera on the front, while two different camera sensors on the back. The rear camera comes with a primary sensor while the other camera comes with a 2x zoom effect. 13MP and 2MP camera on the phone is surely going to make the effects on the phone go to the next level, and people who are buying the phone especially for the camera are going to enjoy the phone with its effects. Even the DSLR blur effect on the phone is carried out in an amazing way.

Pictures from the rear camera are not up to the mark, and you can see issues in the contrast levels, as they will vary with each picture. At times even the colors in the shadow flush out, and if you are taking pictures against the sunlight then you might even get a fully black and white picture due to colors getting flushed out. The front camera happens to offer the best in terms of selfies for the price range, although it is not as great as you would have assumed seeing the performance of the rear camera.

The front camera happens to get a good amount of depth effect with sharp edges, and even the AI beautification works quite well. There is even option to take 1080 & 720p videos. Overall the selfie camera will disappoint you with the photos both in the dim lighting and also in the daytime, as the colors are not that great when using the front camera.

Battery

Talking about the battery you will need a full 3 hours of work to charge the phone dead to fully charged. Though the time is quite good for a phone with 4230 mAh battery and keeping the price range in mind as there is no kind of quick charge tech inside the phone. Using the phone is quite easy and it can easily carry out 2 – 3 hours of gaming, or can easily support around 2 hours of online video streaming. Overall you can easily use the phone for above 15 hours on a daily usage of the phone.

Verdict

RealMe 2 comes with the best in class design as far as you can see with the devices in the price range. When it comes to performance also it will surely amaze you with the gaming and multitasking performance of the phone. Things which are disappointing on the phone is the camera unit and the display unit, other than these the phone is a great package and overall a great budget phone for people who need a device with good looks and performance.
