Xiaomi Redmi 6 Review

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Review

Redmi series from Xiaomi has always been the best when it comes to the budget devices. Coming to the latest in tech Xiaomi Redmi series have always been the best to the people in terms of price to performance ratio. Last year Xiaomi did pretty well with the Redmi 5 series in terms of design language and in terms of pricing the phones.

Each and every phone from Xiaomi have been received well, but as the portfolio of the company is concerned it has been a total mess now. As Xiaomi’s Redmi series was targeting people who needed small devices, while Note series in Redmi portfolio was for persons who needed a bit of larger device with the same performance.

Rest of the devices in Xiaomi lineup is the premium end devices with the Mi branding. But currently, even the Redmi devices have the same size of the display as the Redmi Note series so as of now we can say Xiaomi is quite confused in its own portfolio. Talking about the Redmi 6 particularly this device comes with a screen size of 5.45” while here also we get the dual camera setup on the back.

This time this setup is not like the one we saw on the Redmi Note 5 Pro, but this is the one which we saw on the Mi A1. In the review ahead let us see if the Xiaomi’s Redmi Series of devices have the capability to be in the league of other devices currently retailing in the price bracket.

Design & Build

The Xiaomi Redmi 6 comes with a metal build on the device and we can see the Mi branding through the different colors of the device at the back, for the front part of the device we just have the white or the black color, while the unibody metal color keeps on changing.

As far as the design of the phone goes at the back we have a dual camera setup which is placed horizontally at the top left corner with the Flash besides the same. At the bottom of the phone, we have the Mi Branding. On the front, we have the usual display but here the bezels of the display are quite bold which makes the phone feel a bit dated.

As far as the build quality is concerned it is quite good and you are going to have a nice time holding the device, the front screen of the phone is protected by a normal glass and there is no type of toughen glass use on the device. Although this can be solved with a simple screen guard and a good quality protective case. There are no flex and no kind of bend on the body of the phone, the buttons on the device look good and feel tactile, this makes us sure that the build quality of the phone is really great one.

Display

Coming to the main component of a mobile phone in 2018 on the screen. It comes with a 5.45” display which happens to have HD+ resolution with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The display on the Redmi 6 is an IPS LCD panel which makes it a home to 16 million different colors. The phone has a pixel density of 295ppi which his more than adequate to render all the pixels in such a way that the images look sharp and precise.

Although as per the standards of 2018 the screen is small in real life performance the screen of the phone looks great and it gives a feeling of self-satisfaction. Overall the panel used on the phone renders some great colors, and even the contrast levels on the screen are to the level of the marketing company is doing.

Xiaomi has also used their best panels here, but one part that we would like to note is the rounded edges and they are quite more than other devices which do eat up in the space of the display. In the daytime, there is no issue with the display of the phone and you can easily view the display of the device without any issue even in the harsh sunlight. During the night time you might struggle with your eyes getting wide in pitch darkness, and hence it will surely hurt the eyes in the night time.

Performance

Xiaomi Redmi 6 comes with a MediaTek MT6762 processor and comes in two different configurations one is with 3GB RAM and 32GB of Storage while the other one is 4GB RAM and 64GB of Storage. Both the different storage options on the phone make it possible for us to have a great space to load all our daily applications and all the different types of games that you would like to play. The processor included on the phone comes with the Cortex-A-53 cores which makes the phone highly capable of working on loads with extremely capable battery life.

In daily usage, the phone is able to run most of the different applications on every type of load, but there are issues with the multi-app usage on the 3GB RAM variant, also the 4GB RAM variant struggles when you load over than 4 applications, and the first application starts to move out of the memory. If you are a gamer then you might like the performance of the phone but to a certain extent. Do note that the phone is not made for heavy gaming and hence be sure to keep the phone away from really high-end games.

Camera

Cameras in 2018 have grown to an extent that all the phones have started to grow with dual camera setup, and same is the case with the Xiaomi Redmi 6. The Redmi 6 comes with a dual camera at the back with a 12MP Primary camera and 5MP secondary camera assisting the phone for depth sensing. On the front, we have another 5MP selfie camera which will take care of your social media needs.

Pictures from the phones are at par with other phones and the images are crisp as well have a quite good amount of depth in it. The phones come with a good amount of saturation and have a good color reproduction. Both in the daytime and the night time the camera produces a great result, but do note that the camera will do struggle with a lot of grains and a lot of noise in the night time. It is good for taking and uploading the pictures on the social media.

Battery

Redmi 6 comes with 3000 mAh of the battery which is more than sufficient in making the phone run for over a day. Helping hand in the same is the processor which is a real power efficient one. You can easily get over a day of charge with the phone, but if you game a lot, or take a lot of pictures then might be you are required to charge the phone at the end of the day.

Verdict

Xiaomi Redmi 6 is a great phone for someone who is new to the smartphone business, and even if they are upgrading from another smartphone still the phone is good enough to make the person happy with its performance. Do not expect much from the device, just expect it to do your work just fine. What do you think about the device? Do let us know about the same in the comment section below.
