Samsung Galaxy A8 Star Review

Samsung Galaxy A8 Star Review

Samsung has sorted out most of the portions of their lineup. We have the On series of devices for those who need quality as well as performance, then we have the J series for the people who need performance and looks, and then we have A series which is targeted towards people who are more concerned on the build quality and the looks of the phone, while the S – series of devices are mainly concerned towards the performance and the best of devices from Samsung.

Today we are talking about the A8 Star which means it will pack performance, looks, and build quality, so in the review ahead let us have a look at the device and look if it packs all the different features and will it make the device sell like hot cakes.

Design & Build

Samsung has mastered to design their best masterpieces with glass and metal build. This device also comes with the same design philosophy where we get the front and rear as glass unit, and then we have the aluminum frame around it. On the front, we have the 6.3 – inch glass with bezels both at the top and the bottom, and as the two are in symmetry it looks quite good, but a Samsung branding on the bottom one would have been much better.

Talking about the placements of the different objects in the phone we have the camera placed vertically on the back that too on the left side just as you would have seen in the iPhone X. We have the squarish round fingerprint scanner inclined more towards the top and positioned in the center. We have the SAMSUNG logo exactly towards the center of the phone on the back. For the power button, you will have to reach the right side of the phone, while for the volume button and the Bixby button you will reach out to the left side of the phone.

Display

Samsung is famous for its displays and especially the S – AMOLED panel which is famous for its high saturation and vibrant images. The Galaxy A8 Star from Samsung uses a 6.3 – inched unit of the same panel which is intern supported by Gorilla Glass 4. The phone happens to have a body ratio of 80.6% which is quite high. Resolution of the screen is 1080 x 2220 pixels which count to 18.5:9 on the height to width ratio. The pixel density of the screen falls at 392 which is quite adequate and hence viewing the screen is no issue.

Coming to the real world performance of the glass, the colors and contrast levels by the phone are great and they can easily be compared with most of the glasses from Samsung. There is no shifting of colors or any such issue. It being AMOLED panel the Galaxy A8 Star sports the best in class stimulation of black color. Another great thing with the display is that you can easily use the phone in the dark as it can go really dark, and even in the bright sunlight, you can read each and everything that is made with the help of high luminance that the panel can produce.

Performance

Qualcomm has launched their latest in the lineup Snapdragon 660 which comes with a great price to performance ratio. This one uses the Kryo core which was developed recently by Qualcomm for most of their chipsets.

This in accordance with the 6GB and 4GB RAM allowance makes it possible for us to view all the different apps that we are in need of without any much of issue. Samsun has had issues with the optimization of their TouchWiz, and then they came with Experience UI which since Day 1 had the best in class optimization. This device comes with Android 8.0 Oreo which will surely be upgraded to Android 9.0.

Coming to the real world performance of the device it happens to have the best in class performance especially when compared to the price range, although there are devices around the price which comes with better processors and better performance, still what the product is made to offer is something different. With the amazing brand value, you can use almost all the different applications along with the multi-app functions which are offered by Samsung.

There is no lag especially during multitasking and other such works. When you are gaming on the phone you will surely experience minor lags and that can also be solved if you don’t play games and use the phone at the highest possible settings.

Camera

Talking about the camera setup we have 24MP and 16 MP camera at the back of which both the units have an aperture of f/1.7 which makes the phone to have all the best of products in the camera lineup with it. The phone can easily rock any photo which is clicked by this device. The phone has zoom function as well as the DSLR like blur effect which can be produced with the phone in any photo. Outlining of the subject for the phone is a piece of cake, and any object can be used in the photo. Even the colors and contrast ratio of the images are quite good, and in the range of Samsung performance only.

When it comes to the front camera we have a 24 MP sensor for the selfie images this unit happens to have an aperture of f/2.0. This camera unit also performs quite well, but at times the images produced from the front sensor comes blurry that’s mostly due to the low lighting situations rest it can easily take pictures in most of the environment.

If you are thinking to take those group selfies then you can use the panorama selfie feature of the phone, although it will require all your group members to be available for the selfie in a statue mode.

Battery

Samsung offers a huge 3700 mAh battery along with the A8 Star, and it happens to have all the excellence hidden in the chip used. As the chip comes with the kryo cores which are extremely efficient towards the daily performance of the phone you can easily churn out around 18 hours of usage without any issue, and hence an overnight charge will let you use the phone for camera work, Calling work, social media, and 2 hours of gaming daily. This will make it possible for you to easily adapt to the phone with its charge cycle. Although gaming like a maniac will result into a max play time of 4 hours and 45 mins and if sounds less to you then you will not even be satisfied with any flagship device too at least for gaming time.

Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy A8 Star is the best in the class device that you might be looking forward to for the performance and design. But answering the question asked before the review, the phone does do well in the design and the build quality. As far as performance is concerned it has again hit the records.
