Huawei Honor Magic 2 Review

Huawei is rocking the floor with a huge margin of devices and they are launching many different devices in the field of technology which comes with new innovations. When it comes to innovations Honor is the brand where they try the best of the things first. This time they have got the slider concept of the devices back which were there back in the days of keypad phones.

Those slider devices were the best and were meant to be used with a premium feel. This is the same concept that Honor is using with the Honor Magic 2. This device comes with a slider concept of which we will be talking more in the design section of the review. Hence today we are going to talk about the all-new device, and see if this device is capable to give the best in class service to the users.

Design & Build

On the front the device looks the same as it would have been, the full-screen display does make the user think twice and search for the front camera, and other sensors that are required, but they are indeed hidden to actually make it easy for the users to use the full display of the mobile phone.

Talking about the sensors and cameras we have them in the slider function of the mobile phone. The front display of the phone slides down and reveals the hidden components of the phone and hence you can do different functions via the same.

If you are on the phone’s page and have dialed any number, then you can easily call the number by simply sliding up the rear unit. Talking about the other screens then you will open up the camera in selfie mode which is one of the best things in the mobile industry to flaunt your device.

When it comes to the build quality of the mobile phone, it is one of the best and happens to have the best in class especially with the slider mechanism. Although the phone feels solid still when the slider is positioned up there is a bit of flimsiness in the device, which tends to be there due to the first gen slider device especially for a full-screen phone.

Display

As the phone is showcased at the top of the line device in the Honor line up from Huawei then the magic 2 for sure is going to have an AMOLED display which is well capable of showcasing the wide 16 million color gamut. The screen is sized at 6.39 inches that make the display well enough to have the best in class pictures showcased without any issue.

The aspect ratio of the display is 19.5:9 which is kind of over because in this particular device there is no notch to hide with the extra .5 ratio screen.

This particular display comes with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels which results in a pixel density of 403 PPI. This makes the display one of the best one in the industry for a mobile phone. Keeping in view about the DCI-P3 technology on the screen which comes with 100% coverage for the mobile phone, the device has the best of image reproduction.

The images on the phone have the contrast ratios and a good amount of depth in the blacks showcased on the phone due to the AMOLED display. Keeping the display type in mind even the outdoor usage of the phone is great as the images don’t tend to fade in the bright sunlight. Even during the night time the phone can be used without any issues as the panel can lower its intensity to a great non–eye hurting levels.

Performance

Huawei has loaded the all-new Honor Magic 2 with their latest chipset from their own in-house brand HiSilicon, the Kirin 980. This particular chipset is developed on the all-new 7nm platform on which even the Apple’s latest A12 Bionic chipset is made upon.

Helping the Kirin 980 is the Mali G76 MP10 GPU which is one of the most powerful GPU to drive graphics on any device in the industry with current standards. The phone comes with 8GB or 6GB RAM options where both the options can come with either 256 or 128Gigs of storage.

In the real world, the performance of the phone is mind boggling and you can easily get the best in class performance from the mobile phone, talking about the Kirin 980 chip it also supports the all-new GPU Turbo technology which will make the phone to run any game with utmost ease. In real-world conditions, the phone does heat a bit, but that is nominal for any device that is getting cold passively.

When you are using the phone for a normal application using the device will have no issues and it will run quite normally without any stuttering. Still, this device is rated for the gamers and hence if you are a gamer then for sure you are having a nice time with the device gaming with your friends and flaunting your top of the line graphics.

Camera

This device comes with 5 different sensors on a single device, for starting we have two camera’s on the front which is 16MP and 2Mp one the Primary sensor comes with f/2.0 aperture while the depth sensor comes with f/2.4 aperture.

At the back we have triple sensors which for sure are going to make the device have the best in class performance in the camera department for starters we have a 16MP primary sensor which has an aperture value of f/1.8, and then there is a zoom lens which is another 16MP sensor with an aperture value of f/2.2. Then we do have a black and white sensor which has an aperture value of f/1.8.

Both the front and rear camera unit have the best in class performance for the phone and we are having a great time using either of the cameras. From the back unit, it is quite clear that we can easily get the best in class bokeh and same goes for the front camera.

Both the units produce images with a great amount of color depth, and for the secondary positions, we have the contrast ratios which are boosted to another level with the help of AI and hence the performance of the camera are said to be mind-boggling.

Battery

Huawei loads the Honor Magic 2 with the all-new 3500 mAh battery which comes with the fast charging of 4A/10W which makes it a 40W charger. This makes the phone capable of having a good amount of charging capacity.

When we are making the most of the mobile phone and hence we need a good amount of battery life then this device shows its true colors and we get over 2 days of battery life all due to the 7nm chipset which is highly power efficient. Even if you are using the mobile phone for gaming then too over 8 hours of screen on time is evident and makes you use the mobile phone for great.

Verdict

Huawei’s Honor Magic 2 is a great device and for sure going to keep you entertained with the help of its powerful processor, another thing that is going to help is the great camera units that are for sure going to keep you busy in taking pictures.

The only thing that sets this device down is the slider unit, as it can have issues at a later stage, hence if you are someone who uses the phone for a year and then changes then this device is for you for sure.
