Nokia 5.1 Review

Nokia 5.1 Review

Nokia has done fairly well with its current lineup of devices, although they were old in times with the design and even with the processor, it was the brand value and even the performance on offer for the money from the device that kept them running.

The major point of these phones being sold was the Nokia’s build quality that was kept with these devices till now, and this made the device to sell in hot numbers. Nokia is now the only device to go if you are looking for a reliable device to keep up with you till the next 2 years.

Today we are reviewing the all-new Nokia 5.1 which have got some time since it was released, today we will look after the same and see if it is worth enough to be given the amount of reputation it has been getting in the market. With competitors such as the Redmi Note 5 and Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 available let’s see if this device keep up, do read the review of those devices before reading this one to get the right winner for your hard earned money.

Design & Build

Nokia has got most of its cues the right place especially in terms of design. On the front, both the top and bottom bezel of the phone are of the same size, and the top bezel gets the Nokia branding on the top right side and that looks super cool on a device.

Rest the device looks quite great and happens to be in the right place with the right proportions. On the back of the phone, we just get a single camera unit with a flash unit inside the same, there is even a fingerprint scanner on the bottom of the same unit, and all of these are placed vertically right in the center. There is even a Nokia branding which is again placed vertically.

The front of the phone is protected by an unspecified version of the Corning Gorilla Glass 3, although it’s of no issue as even the Gorilla Glass 3 protects from the scratches.  The back of the phone gets an aluminum build from Grade 6000 Aluminium and hence the phone is light and at the same time have good tensile strength.

In hand feel of the phone is great and at the same time, the phone looks quite durable and premium. The phone is great if you are looking for a material that you can drop a couple of times before drastically finishing it off.

Display

Nokia has loaded the phone with a 5.5-inch display which comes with the 18:9 ratio which was quite famous in the first quarter of 2018 and then slowly most of them moved to the 19:9 and 19.5:9 ratios.

Coming to the resolution of the display it is 1080 x 2160 which is actually FHD+ and hence this makes the device to have a capable and really sharp display. Display of the phone is having a PPI of 439 and hence this makes the texts and other things really sharp.

In the real world, the phone is quite great where you can easily view all the different images, movies and all different things with real ease. The display looks quite great in the daylight when the sun is just above the head and shines right through the different glasses.

In the night time there are no issues on the phone as the display gets moderately dark, and hence while viewing the display it doesn’t hurt the eyes much, although it does hurt but not much. Talking about the display panel’s colors they are great and have no issues in displaying all the different types of colors. Even the saturation levels of the phone are at the right spot without any issue.

Performance

The all new Nokia 5.1 comes with the Helio P18 chipset which happens to be a real power saver and a great performer chipset. The chip comes with an octa-core setup and this results into the first four cores being clocked at 2.0 GHz and the rest four clocked at 1.2 GHz the lesser clocked cores are power saving ones which will handle the tasks mostly during the night time or in the standby time.

Talking about the graphics duty they will be taken care by the mali – T860MP2 chip which is another great chipset. The phone comes in two configurations one is with 3GB and 32 GB of Internal Storage while the other is with 2 GB RAM and 16GB of Internal Storage.

In the real world, the phone is a great unit and works quite well until and unless you are not stressing the phone. If you are doing any intensive task then for sure the phone will get issues and you will see lags, frame drops, and even some time freezing issues onto the phone.

Coming to the end result the phone is coming out as a performer which can handle the entire social media task and all the calling and messaging related tasks. Although other different games and other applications are not going to have a nice performance on the phone.

Camera

Nokia 5.1 comes with a 16MP rear camera which is loaded with PDAF while the selfie camera is loaded with an 8MP sensor. Both the camera unit is just like any unit you would have seen in 2016 and early 2017.

This does make it clear that from the camera point of view the phone is still lacking the juice, but it is enough good for clearing all the basic tasks of the phone. Do note that the phones are not made for camera geeks, but are made to clear the basic needs of an instant camera.

In real-world usage, the phone performs quite well and the snapper on the phone is the best in class with no issues of any distortion or any grainy images or images without focus especially in the daytime. These issues do exist on the phone and they are usually found during the night time.

During the day the phone is capable to capture the correct colors of the phone, and you can easily see the images full of details with the saturation set at the right level. Talking about the front camera it is not exactly wide and is only great for single or dual selfies, any person more than that is surely going to be ignored due to a narrow-angle front camera.

Battery

Nokia loads the Nokia 5.1 with a 2970 mAh battery and this makes the phone capable of powering the phone the whole day without any issue. Do note that as the phone is not made for proper gaming or even occasional small games this phone doesn’t have an excellent usage time, and only have the best in class standby time. Hence if you are someone who is into calling different peoples then this phone will make you call all of those at a single charge.

Verdict

Nokia 5.1 is quite great and for sure is for people who are looking for a device for the purpose of a mobile phone, not as a media center doubling as a phone when needed.
