Luckily, there are few measures we can take to secure our social media platforms Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. It is a smart way to protect your online accounts from attacks.

Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have two-factor authentication support which adds an additional layer of security to your accounts. Two-factor authentication is not a new thing and has been around for some time. It follows two methods to authenticate a particular account. The main advantage of the two-factor authentication is your account still locked even after the passwords are compromised.

In this article, we will know how to enable two-factor authentication on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

1. Enable two-factor authentication on Facebook

Here I’m using an iOS smartphone to enable the two-factor authentication for Facebook. The steps are pretty much similar to Android also.

Mobile set-up steps:

  1. On your smartphone open the Facebook app and tap on the More button at the bottom right corner of the screen.
  2. Now, tap on Settings & Privacy.
  3. Here, select Settings -> Security and login.
  4. Now, tap on Get Started option at the bottom of the screen.
  5. It will show the list of available two-factor authentication options on the screen.
  6. Here, choose the preferred security method and continue to the next step.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to the two-factor authentication for your Facebook account.

Web setup:

You can similarly enable two-factor authentication on the web.

  1. Open your preferred web browser on your desktop or laptop and open Facebook.com
  2. Now click on the drop-down menu at the top and go to Settings.
  3. Here, under the General section in the sidebar, click on Security and login.
  4. Next, click on “Use Two-Factor authentication“.
  5. Now follow the on-screen instructions to set up two-factor authentication.

2. Enable two-factor authentication on Twitter

Mobile set-up steps:

  1. Open the Twitter app on your mobile and then tap on your profile photo.
  2. Now tap on Settings and Privacy.
  3. Next, tap on Account and select Security. 
  4. Here, tap on the two-factor authentication option to start the set-up procedure.

Web Set-up:

  1. Open twitter.com on your browser and click on More on the left side options.
  2. Here, select Settings and Privacy.
  3. Next, tap on Account and select Security. 
  4. Now tap on the two-factor authentication option and follow the on-screen instructions to set-up.

3. Enable two-factor authentication on Instagram

Mobile set-up steps:

  1. Open the Instagram app on your mobile device and then tap on the profile tab and then go into the Settings.
  2. Now tap on Security and then tap on two-factor authentication.
  3. Now, tap on Get Started option at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Here, follow the on-screen instructions to set up two-factor authentication on Instagram.

Web setup:

  1. On your browser open Instagram.com
  2. Now, click on the profile tab at the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Here, click on the Settings icon located near your profile picture.
  4. Now on the screen, choose Privacy and Security.
  5. Now click on the “enable two-factor authentication” option.
  6. Now select the desired option and follow the on-screen instructions to set up.
