On paper, it is said to be 10X faster than a regular HDD.
The operating system should be installed on an SSD; at least try to get a variant with 250GB of SSD (minimum).
3. Display
It has to be a 1080P display; anything below that is not worth the price. Plus, it will be best to get an IPS panel as generally, it has better viewing angles than a TN Panel.
You must try to get a display with a higher refresh rate. Nowadays, most of them come with a 60Hz display. More refresh rates will allow you to play smoothly, and the transitions will be visibly much faster than any regular displays with lower refresh rates.

No considerable cooling system is provided, making it live coal when playing games. There’s a difference in heat production when doing a resource-intensive task and playing games. It does manage it with the extra cooling space but when it comes to games, expect it to heat a lot. Getting a coolpad would be a wise decision.
5. Asus TUF Gaming A15
TUF is a gaming series from Asus that caters to AMD processors. With recent Ryzen upgrades, we have seen that it is superior to any other Nvidia processor available currently. But it isn’t echoed in this variant. Unlike insane pricing counterparts, this is the overall midrange that you can quickly get anywhere.
Build, Connectivity, and other hardware:
Overall it is a plastic build coated with a metallic finish to make it look premium, which must not be the case but there you go. Again if you need some real metal lid, go for the Gray color variant; the Black one comes with complete plastic. Don’t expect much sturdiness and handle this with care. (We are not complaining at all as it’s the best that you can get in this price segment).
It comes with dual cooling fans with vents suppressed at the bottom, so always keep it on a table to not heat like crazy. Plus, the exhaust vents are at the sides, which serve the purpose just right.
The keyboard comes with a dedicated number pad, RGB Backlit with a 1.8mm travel distance.
Ports: 3 x USB (a 2.0 port, a USB 3.2 port, and a USB Type C port), Headphone Jack, RJ45, HDMI. No VGA, DVD Player, and SD Card reader.
The battery department does a decent job but with a 48WHr 3-cell Li-Po battery giving anywhere between 4-5 hours on media consumption. Gaming is really not recommended without a plug-in.

Inside the A15, we get a 4th Gen Ryzen 5 46000H processor with 8GB DDR4 (3200MHz) RAM. In the GPU, we have the 4GB Nvidia GTX 1650Ti, which is a bit old, but it can run those new titles smoothly on medium settings. With High and Ultra, expect about 20-30 fps only.
So with storage, it comes with 1TB SATA HDD coupled with 256GB M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 SSD. Here you can install OS on SSD and some other essential programs while games stay on HDD. There will be a slight increase in loading times for games while you can expect smooth boot timing. You can hardly get 200GB left on the SSD. We recommend to upgrade it as per your requirements.
DTS verified speakers, gets very loud and sounds decent. Apart from this, it has Armoury Crate software that helps you fine-tune different settings to get the best performance out of your laptop.
6. Asus ROG Strix G15
Republic of Gamers by Asus is a series that you can see on both premium and budget segments. In this variant section, they usually undercut other aspects while keeping the performance a top priority. It feels like they traded off the absence of a webcam and some other standard features with a supreme quality GPU.

Fun fact: Its design is inspired by BMW vehicles and built in collaboration with the BMW Designworks group. You get a premium look made with hard polycarbonate material and matte finishing. It packs with a glossy lid with a ROG logo on the top of it. Bringing the BMW look, it has a scissor laptop opening, which feels really great.
It has a 4-Zone RGB backlit keyboard with RGB LED light bars wrapped around its edges. The keyboard has a missing number pad, but the distance is centered on getting an optimal typing experience.
Dual fans that come along with the laptop have a self-cleaning mechanism to remove the dust particles. Basically, it throws the air furiously in the opposite direction, which helps in cleaning. Going a step further, they have kept liquid metal on the top of the CPU to keep the temperature in check.

It can go 250 nits bright, which usually is standard in this range, and you won’t be able to play much in outdoor lighting conditions. A big red flag is the unavailability of a webcam. It can be an instant turnoff as there is already too much compromise in the spec sheet.

It powers up with a 10th generation Intel Core i7 1050H processor. The best part is that you get an Nvidia RTX 2060 6GB DDR6 VRAM GPU, which usually falls in the premium segment.
Along with this, to make it a perfect feast for budget gaming, it gives you 16GB DDR4 RAM, and again you can easily expand it to 32GB. Plus, it has a 1TB SSD for an additional performance boost.
7. Acer Predator Helios 300
Predator is the new mid-range successor to the Acer Nitro series. It’s one of the best gaming laptops within the budget price bracket that hosts an RTX series GPU.

A sturdy laptop with Metal chassis and black paint finish that looks premium. It has black and blue colors, unlike the loud nitro series with red and black combo.
You also get a 4-Zone RGB backlit keyboard, easily customizable with predator sense software unique to this series. The touchpad supports multi-finger gestures and gives a smooth, gliding experience.
Again the air intake vents are at the bottom, be sure to not freeze it while the exhaust is kept at the rear side of the build. It also comes with 4th Gen aero blade technology to keep insides from overheating.
Ports: 4 x USB( 3.2 ports and one Type C port), HDMI, RJ45 LAN port, Headphone jack, and a mini display port. Like every other laptop, they decided to skip VGA, SD Card Reader, and DVD player.
A 59Whr Li-ion battery powers the laptop decently to go through 5-6 hours of general usage. You also get a 230W AC adapter in the box.
Display:
Helios 300 packs a 15.6-inch FHD display with a 144Hz refresh rate. It’s all good, but this one is a TFT panel and not IPS.
Viewing angles here are not that great, and overall display quality looks subpar, but when it comes to gaming, eh higher refresh rate helps a bit, and you can’t spot any significant con.
If you are a content creator looking for the right blend of content and gaming, we strongly recommend staying away from Acer altogether.
All the displays we have seen in this range are cheap and won’t do any help. But, if you can afford an excellent secondary panel, this might be the best hardware available.
Processor, GPU, and overall performance:
Here we see a combination of Intel Core i5 10300H processor and Nvidia RTX 2060 6GB DDR6 VRAM. A wild combination is what we would comment on. Though having i7 would have made an enormous difference but again bringing RTX in this pricing is commendable.
Like its mid-range counterpart, it packs with 1TB HDD and 256 GB NVMe SSD coupled with 16GB DDR4 RAM, easily expandable up to 32GB.
Decent quality output is generated from the dual speakers powered by Waves Maxxaudio. Additionally, it also has Killer Double Shot pro technology that helps in reducing latency while gaming.
8. Lenovo Legion Y540
Legion is a gaming series offered by Lenovo; although it is a Chinese brand (just like most others), Lenovo’s hold in India is incredible. If you prefer something long-lasting and that comes with great customer support, getting this brand would probably be the right choice.

If you compare its build quality and design, there’s not much difference to its predecessors. For the folks who have no idea, it is built with serrated plastic and feels quite premium. What’s more impressive is that this is just 24mm thin and weighs roughly around 2.3KG, making it a highly portable power pack.
The keyboard experience is top-notch as you get WASD lights, <1ms response time, and white backlighting. Though the Numpad is oddly placed, it gives a good experience.
Lenovo brings you the legion coldfront technology. It consists of a dual-channel thermal system that gives you separate cooling for GPU and CPU and drastically increases cooling performance, plus a heat-sync for the keyboard. What’s more crazy here is that it packs 70 fan blades per channel to reduce noise.
Ports: 4 X USB (3.1 and one Type C), HDMI, Ethernet (RJ45 Port), Kensington Lock Slot, Mini DisplayPort. Following the pact, there’s no optical drive present, nor the VGA and SD Card reader.
It has a 52.5W three-cell battery. Not the best one out, but gets the job done. It will roughly last for 2-3 hours, and if you are planning to skip this laptop just because of the battery, then it won’t be a wise decision as gaming is always done plugged-in.
Display:
You get an FHD, 15.6 inch IPS LCD panel with a 144Hz refresh rate. It can go 300nits bright and can manage 72% of sRGB colors. Honestly not the best one in the market and definitely not for the content creators. A high refresh rate helps in gaming and gives you a smooth content consumption experience when you surf the web or do some other office work.
Processor, GPU, and overall performance:
Legion Y40 is on the budget gaming side as it is powered by an Intel Core i5 9th generation (9750H) processor combined with Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 with ray-tracing capabilities. With this, you also get a 512GB SSD where you can install two or three primary games, OS, and some daily used software and a 1TB HDD to store everything else.
In the speaker department, we have Dolby Atmos sound with two front-firing speakers. It generates good volume, but it’s not enough to get through in a crowded or noisy environment.
9. HP Omen
Now we don’t recommend you any HP laptop at all, at least in the US. The primary factor that contributes to such a remark is their poor customer service. Apart from this, they do offer decent laptops that we cannot ignore. So here goes the Omen series dedicated to gaming by HP.

Premium looking combination of plastic with metal frame gives it a well-defined sturdiness. Like all other laptops trying to look unique, you get an omen logo on behind, giving a gaming vibe. What we don’t like is the hinge; please be extra careful while opening and closing the lid as it can break.
You get a four-zone RGB backlighting keyboard that can be customized with an omen command center, and it has a 1.5mm travel distance. It comes with a Numpad, and no irregular key placements are noticed as such. Also, the touchpad supports multi gestures.
If we talk about cooling, here we see a technology that goes by the name Tempest. It occupies a dual fan system with a big exhaust and large vents. It can do the job just fine.
Ports: 2 x Superspeed USB (Type C Thunderbolt 3 and Type-A) port, Mini display port, HDMI, RJ45 LAN port, Headphone jack, and a Multi-format SD Card reader. Following the pact, they don’t give you any optical drive.
HP Omen comes with a 70.9Whr Li-Po battery with an average screen time of 5-6hours on regular usage. What’s more interesting about this is that it supports fast charging and can do 0-50% in just 30 minutes, which is very remarkable in a gaming laptop.
Display:
Honestly, we feel impressed. It has a 120Hz refresh rate display with an IPS LCD panel, coupled with a 4K UHD display resolution of 1920 x 1080. IPS panel helps in better viewing angles, and on top of it, there’s an anti-glare coating that goes smooth on your eyes. And that’s not all, it’s design aspect has thin bezels making it look gorgeous. Also, the peak brightness is 400 nits that can handle outdoor lighting as well.
Processor, GPU, and overall performance:
Powered with 10th generation Intel core i7 10750H, which we have seen in many other 2019- mid-2020 segment laptops, with a base clock of 2.6GHz and turbo boosts up to 5GHz, it can easily be efficient and deal with intense tasks at the same time.
Nvidia RTX 2070 Max Q GPU having 8GBVram is an excellent addition to fulfill absolutely any gaming requirement.
Furthermore, you get 16GB DDR4 RAM that comes clocked at 2933MHz and expandable up to 32GB making it quite future proof.
Another great thing to have is a 1TB SSD to provide you blazing fast loading speeds.
It has Bang and Olufsen speakers that do a decent job when played indoors, but you cannot rely much on outdoor or noisy surroundings.
10. Lenovo Legion 7i
We just cannot ignore this beast yet. It offers almost everything that makes it one of the best choices when it comes to selecting a gaming laptop. Let’s have a brief look at what comes inside.
Build, Connectivity, and other hardware:
Remember the other Legion laptop with a plastic build? This won’t disappoint as it packs with anodized aluminum chassis making it super lightweight with just 2.25KG. It can be your new portable beast.
Its keyboard comes with per-key RGB lighting effects. There’s a standard keyboard with proper key placement and a nice touchpad supporting multi-gestures.
To keep it cool, we have coldfront 2.0 with us that comes with a vapor chamber and a six-point thermal sensor array that keeps all the heat at bay. It has even got dual liquid crystal polymer blades to keep everything cool. The dual exhaust vent system is kept at the side, and interestingly it also has RGB color coming out of it, which can be customized with the ICUE software. Even with all these techs, it did sometimes disappoint with thermal throttling during various benchmark tests. It’s better to use this one in a cool environment.
Ports: 5 x USB 3.1 (3 x Type-A, Type-C, and Type-C Thunderbolt 3), HDMI, RJ45 (LAN) port, Headphone jack. It’s common to not see an SD Card reader and optical disk drive.

It also has a screen refresh rate of 144Hz, making your gameplay ultra-smooth. Furthermore, the bezels are narrowed around the display to give you an immersive experience. Apart from this, it supports Nvidia G-sync and can go 500 nits bright.
Processor, GPU, and overall performance:
As per the processor configuration, you get an Intel 10th generation i7 10875H clocked at 2.3 GHz for everyday usage and can go up to 5.1 GHz with Turbo Boost. It is coupled by Nvidia RTX 2080 Super Max Q GPU with 8GB VRAM (DDR6).
There’s 16GB of DDR4 RAM (3200MHz) on board, and it comes with a vacant slot so you can expand it up to 32GB. Speaking of storage, you get 1TB SSD making everything blazing fast.
Stereo speakers by Harman Kardon with Dolby Atmos sound support are present. It’s great for content consumption, but again, don’t expect much out of it in a noisy background. This one’s definitely a powerful gaming laptop.
Should you buy a Laptop online or offline?
Well, again, it’s a personal choice. If you know someone who has a computer store and is willing to give good discounts and offers, then sure go offline. You must first visit the offline stores to get an idea and feel about the laptop, compare both the prices, and get the cheaper one.
But, here’s the catch. Offline stores will give you extra accessories like a mouse, keyboard, headphones and a cool bag, even a cleaning kit.
There’s always a promotional offer running which will either give you a 1TB HDD for free or an upgrade in 2 years warranty, which you can’t avail of for online purchase.
The difference could be roughly between 2-3K, but getting it offline seems totally worth it.
