Twitter Rebrands As ‘X’, Official Handles Drop The Blue Bird

Twitter Rebrands As 'X', Official Handles Drop The Blue Bird

Twitter, now rebranded as ‘X,’ has undergone a significant transformation with its official handle changing to @x. Following Elon Musk’s lead, who replaced the blue bird logo with the letter X, the microblogging platform embraced the new identity. The previous @twitter handle was first renamed to @x, and later made private.

Now, the active official handle is @x, attracting over 66 million followers. Other official Twitter handles have also followed suit, dropping the “Twitter” name or adopting the letter X. However, the platform’s new “X” logo experienced a brief change before Elon Musk decided to revert it back to its original design.

According to a report by TechCrunch, Twitter underwent a rebranding process without reaching out to the original owner of the @X handle, Gene X Hwang of Orange Photography. Hwang later tweeted from his new handle @x1234567998765, suggesting that the matter has been resolved, but it’s uncertain if he sold the handle to Twitter.

As part of the rebranding, Twitter’s official handles, including @TwitterSupport, @TwitterDev (now inactive), and @TwitterAPI, have been renamed to @Support, @Xdevelopers, and @API, respectively, all sporting the new X logo as their profile pictures.

Twitter’s subscription service, Twitter Blue, has been rebranded as @XBlue, but interestingly, the About page of the paid plan still retains the Twitter Blue branding.

In another update, verified users now have the option to allow other Blue users to download their posted videos for offline viewing, as reported by The Verge on the Twitter Video page.

These changes mark a significant shift for Twitter as it embraces the ‘X’ identity, but it also raises questions about the handling of the @X handle situation and the impact on its subscription service users.

Ever since its acquisition by Elon Musk in October 2022, Twitter has been witnessing a vast list of transformations. From introducing paid features to restricting access to certain functionalities, the platform has been undergoing significant changes. Notably, verified prominent handles faced the removal of their blue ticks, and now, the platform is in the midst of a major rebranding process. These changes in Twitter’s approach have caught the attention of users and technology enthusiasts alike, leaving them curious about the platform’s future direction and impact on user experience. As the rebranding unfolds, it remains to be seen how these changes will shape the platform’s identity and its interactions with users going forward.
