It has now become very common when we say that another huge dump of leaked data has been found regarding Facebook members. This is because Facebook has had a lot of trouble in recent times due to various scandals and data leaks. Now, a similar incident has surfaced in which Facebook numbers of members on the social media networks along with their Facebook IDs have been found. This was seen on a database which contained no less than data of 419 million Facebook members.
It has been found out that 133 Facebook members in this database were from the US whereas 18 million are from the U.K. On the other hand, 50 Million Vietnamese Facebook users have also been compromised due to this leak. While we know that Facebook ID of any user can be easily found as it is public, the Facebook numbers expose is a major breach. Also, add to it the fact that those numbers were attached to those Facebook IDs. This means that it can be easily found out which numbers belong to the Facebook ID.
Not only the numbers and Facebook IDs were found, we have also seen images where the database contained Facebook members’ gender and name information too. Therefore, if you were getting too many spam calls in recent days than it is likely because of this database. Sanyam Jain, the security researcher, who found this database said that it contained numbers of various celebrities as well.
But soon after the database leak was exposed, Facebook spokesperson shrugged this leak off saying that “This data set is old and appears to have information obtained before we made changes last year to remove people’s ability to find others using their phone numbers. The data set has been taken down and we have seen no evidence that Facebook accounts were compromised.”
