Apple has finally made an announcement regarding its AirPower charging mat. In 2017, Apple made an announcement regarding wireless charging pad from the company along with its wireless charging iPhone X and iPhone 8 series. This wireless charging pad would apparently charge all Apple accessories and was named AirPower. Since then, we have not heard anything about this product from Apple. However, leaks and rumors regarding AirPower were flowing on in the industry.

Even, there were conspiracy theories regarding Apple’s AirPower as well. Some already assumed that it was cancelled and some said it would arrive this year. However, Apple has now put an end to all those theories. This is because Apple has confirmed that AirPower is officially cancelled by them. In a statement given via email to TechCrunch, Apple senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, Dan Riccio said:

After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward,

This should put an end to all those claiming that AirPower was still in development. But we do feel that Apple was still working on ways to fix issues it faced with AirPower. But it just couldn’t find ways and finally had to cancel this ambitious project.

As for the cancellation, Apple has not yet revealed specific reasons. But we already know that AirPower had severe overheating issues. Some insiders already claimed that Apple’s AirPower gets too hot while charging. This could also be a security risk on Apple did the right thing by cancelling such a product. Also, this raises a question that will we get to see a product like AirPower from any company in the near future. Because if Apple couldn’t do it, it is tough for everyone else as well.
