While Intel still struggles to launch its 10nm processor this year, AMD showed its 7nm processor at CES 2019. It is a part of third generation chips from the Ryzen line and arrives in the middle of this year.
While demonstrating, the manufacturer put the processor to work along with a Core i9-9900K, Intel’s latest 8th generation chip. The idea was not to show better performance necessarily, but to indicate that AMD hardware requires 30% less power than its competitor. An important number when this can indicate money. But, the manufacturer has tried to bet on the economy to improve performance, which is yet to come.
At the presentation, Lisa Su, CEO of the company, also showed the chip, with eight cores of 7 nm, totaling 16 threads. With this, she explained that the company is now also able to produce such chips for AM4 motherboards.
Advanced 7nm GPU
Not just a processor that AMD lives on. The company also unveiled its new video card, the Radeon 7. It already uses the company’s 7 nm technology to improve graphics capabilities. According to the company, its board is 25% faster than Vegas used earlier in Apple devices such as the iMac Pro. In the presentation, it showed Devil May Cry 5 running in 4K and with 100 fps and Battlefield V with 60 fps.
The Radeon 7 has 16 GB of memory and is capable of 1TB of bandwidth per second, and can reach up to 1.8 gigahertz. It is also known that Apple is still negotiating with AMD to put such video cards on their future handsets.
