Android Q Beta supported devices are more than the Android Pie Beta offerings

Android Q Beta supported devices are more than the Android Pie Beta offerings

The Android Q Beta will be rolled out to more devices than the Android Pie Beta supported devices list. This is made possible by the Google Project Treble.

In the last year developer conference by Google, they announced that the Android Pie beta is available for several devices. Previously, Android Beta programs available only for Google exclusively made phones like Nexus and Pixel devices. Now with the help of project Treble, more smartphones like Nokia 7 Plus, OnePlus 6, Oppo R15 Pro, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, and Vivo X21 to try out the beta version of the Android.

The head of the project Treble, Mr. Iliyan Malchev revealed the details of Android Q Beta program in his developers’ backstage podcast. He said the Android Q Beta will be released for more number of smartphones than the Android Pie Beta supported device list.

Malchev words

“The number is bigger for the upcoming Android release, which I am very happy about. I cannot share the exact numbers yet. But the trend is positive and strong, and I am very happy about this.”

Going deep into the details, Project Treble supposes a separation of the hardware controllers and the operating system, in such a way that the software layer can be updated without the need to also update the hardware support. That’s where the generic images come in: they’re used to check Treble’s compatibility.

Any mobile Treble must be able to operate this image of the generic system, which opens new possibilities for developers to try a new version of Android on your physical device without resorting to an emulator. And also for early-adopter end users, who want to try Android before anyone else.

However, Google Pixel devices will receive the Android Q Beta rollouts first. The time will be nearly 2 months gap for other devices to receive the update.

This is a huge step towards the Beta testing program. Now the pure Android lovers can pick other smartphones than the Pixel for their Android beta testing enthusiasm.
