Android Q First Filtered News: Dark Theme, Desktop Mode And More

Android Q new filtered images and features out

Android Q – the new version of the Google operating system – has been seen in the Pixel 3 XL, so we can take a first look at several of the news that will bring the time of its official release. This new filtration is not exactly the preliminary version that will reach the developers, but it is complete enough to take into account what is coming.

As we had anticipated in late November, the tests have already begun, although Android 9.0 Pie still has a penetration of 1% on Android devices around the world. And, judging by the leaks, the news that will come will continue to improve the user experience that has been trumpeted by its developer in recent years.

Dark Theme Implementation

One of the main features that have been able to filter is the implementation of the dark theme in the entire Android Q interface. As detailed in a report by XDA-Developers, the new feature is present in the screen configuration of the detected compilation. So to activate it will only be necessary to enable the option “Set dark mode“.

This is shown by the different screenshots that have been revealed, showing how it will also be possible to enable the function permanently or when you need it. However, it is still not possible to know how the native Android apps will interact with the operating system under this theme since many of them already have this configuration.

Given that it is a highly requested function, it would be important to know what the adaptation process will be like. The proven compilation tells us that the developer would also have enabled an option to activate the dark theme in a “forced way” in those applications that do not have the built-in function.

New Permissions Management & Desktop Mode

Another one of the great aspects that this new filtration brings to us is the improvement that Google will make in the general administration of Permissions of the applications, having the possibility of restricting them while the apps are in use. And, also, the Permissions section of each app will be renewed so that we can quickly see at a glance which accesses have been granted and which have not.

And, on the other hand, it has been possible to detect in this compilation a “Desktop Mode” that, apparently, would provide a similar feature to that offered by products such as Samsung DeX or Easy Projection of EMUI. That is, the possibility of replicating on a large screen, such as a monitor or a TV, what happens on our smartphones. According to the report, the function is still in an early experimental state and could not be tested.

The version of Android Q compiled in this opportunity has also been able to offer clues about other functions that the developer is testing, mainly among the options for Developer, like new support to enable window mode and direct access to a recorder.

Finally, two new configurations have been added to the Accessibility section: Time to act and Time to read, which will allow us to choose the time that the messages will have to show us information on a screen and the time we will have to perform an action before the notification window disappears.

In conclusion, there are several features that are working on Android Q, although it is still too early for a detailed analysis and, surely, we will continue to hear about new features that will appear during the coming months. If we take as reference the official Google calendar, August would be the chosen month for this new version to be presented. But, this movement so early in the tests, can also mean a change of plans by the manufacturer.
