Apple and Google’s Coronavirus tracker API is now available

Coronavirus tracker

We have seen that everyone is talking about the Coronavirus pandemic right now and it is rightly so because the pandemic has not only taken lives of many people but the economy is falling in many countries due to the virus.

While everyone is not talking about the economy at the moment, health and safety is the number one priority. Therefore, when Google and Apple announced that they are working together to build a Coronavirus tracker then everyone was happy. Because it is rare to see Apple and Google, said to be the fiercest of rivals, working together on the same project.

But as we say, difficult times bring even the worst of rivals together and that we have seen. Talking about that Coronavirus tracker, Google has announced that their tracker in partnership with Apple is now ready.

The best part about this tracker is that it will alert people if they have been possibly exposed to a COVID-19 patient or not. This is helpful because we might not know that a person whom we have interacted with gets diagnosed with the virus later on.

Since the tracker will alert us, we can then take precautions such as isolating ourselves from the family as well as taking the test to make sure that we are not spreading the virus.

Right now, such technology is difficult to find in other parts of the world and it is great that two giants of the industry have come together to make such a platform for the world.

For those concerned about their privacy, Google and Apple say that “Each user gets to decide whether or not to opt-in to Exposure Notifications; the system does not collect or use location from the device; and if a person is diagnosed with COVID-19, it is up to them whether or not to report that in the public health app”.
