Asus Launches Zenfone Ares with Snapdragon 821 Processor and focus on AR/VR

Asus Zenfone AR Design

Asus has just launched a new smartphone in the Asus Zenfone lineup. However, this smartphone is not one of the smartphones from the Asus Zenfone 5 series. Rather, the latest smartphone has been named as Asus Zenfone Ares. Also, it is termed as a successor to the Zenfone AR which was launched in India last year. We have known that the Zenfone AR from Asus failed to make a mark due to its hefty price tag. Therefore, Asus Zenfone Ares has been launched at half the price of Zenfone AR.

It is also known that similar to Zenfone AR, Zenfone Ares also focuses on AR/VR capabilities. This means that the display is a Quad HD one with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. The display on the Zenfone Ares is a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED panel with the older 16:9 aspect ratio. This means that the smartphone comes with thick bezels on the top and bottom of the display. Though, the fingerprint scanner is placed at the bottom along with capacitive buttons. On the VR front, the display has Tru2life technology developed by Asus which enhances the viewing experience while using a VR handset. Along with that is a Snapdragon 821 processor running the smartphone coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage.

Along with that are SonicMaster 3.0 Hi-Res Audio and DTS headphones with 7.1 channel support for media playback. The smartphone comes with a 23MP camera on the rear with motion tracking, depth sensing and PixelMaster 3.0 technology. On the front is an 8MP snapper as well. The smartphone has 3300 mAh non-removable battery, fast charging support and comes with USB Type-C. The smartphone still runs on a year old version of Android which is Android Nougat. The smartphone is launched in Taiwan at a price of TWD 9,990 which translates to $330 or INR 22,500. However, there is no word from the company about its official launch in India or other countries.
