Companies can save Billions of Dollars every year if DNS Firewalls are used says GCA

We have known that cyber attacks have become common in today’s age. And the target for those attackers are mostly the big companies who have data of millions of users. Now, some of the attacks are successful in penetrating and cause severe damage to companies. Now, a research was made on this topic and it has been found out that 1/3rd of those losses can be prevented.

It is revealed that DNS protection should be used inside companies so that damages from the attacks can be prevented. It is estimated that a company can save anywhere between $19 billion to $37 billion in losses in the US if DNS firewalls are used.

In terms of global numbers, companies can be able to save $150 billion up to $200 billion in losses if DNS protection is implemented. This research was made by the Global Cyber Alliance or GSA. This report has been named as “The Economic Value of DNS Security”.

GSA President and CEO, Philip Reitinger says that “The benefit from using a DNS firewall or protective DNS so exceeds the cost that it’s something everyone should look at,”. In most of the cases, DNS firewalls are available at no cost to purchase or for licensing according to Philip.

Reitinger also adds that “In most cases, it will be extremely easy to do. There’s no new software here,”. It could be as simple as changing the address used for DNS resolution in computer’s network settings but it can be more difficult for other companies.

If the firewall begins to generate false positives which block the traffic to destinations that are legitimate for business purpose then it might be a problem. However, we have a solution for that too. GSA President says that “If you see people trying to go out to various services, you get to write the rules that allow or block the destination in spite of the firewall.”
