Dell Laptops and PCs can be remotely hijacked due to a vulnerability

If you are using a Dell PC or Laptop, we have some bad news for you. It has been revealed that Dell’s application contains a vulnerability. This vulnerability is found in the Dell SupportAssist utility app which comes pre-installed on every Dell system. Now, this app has a vulnerability which exposes Dell’s PCs to remote hackers.

These hackers can try and remotely access anything and everything on your PC. They can execute code on your PC as well as get admin privileges as they get full access to your Laptop or PC. However, it must be noted that this is possible on the older version of this tool and Dell has released a patch already. So it is a must to update this app as soon as possible.

It has also come to our notice that the security vulnerability was already fixed on April 23. This means that it was present from before and possibly caused damage to someone. As we say that, it is reported that a very high number of users are impacted by this vulnerability.

As we mentioned earlier, the application is a system app from Dell and comes pre-installed and there is no option to remove it as well. Note that Dell PCs with Windows OS pre-installed are affected and those which come with Linux or no OS are not affected, obviously.

According to the security researcher who found out this vulnerability, Dell PCs are found to have a “remote code execution” vulnerability that under certain circumstances can allow attackers an easy way to hijack Dell systems.

As is the case with most of the hacking attacks, this attack relies on luring users on a malicious web page, where JavaScript code can trick the Dell SupportAssist tool into downloading and running files from an attacker-controlled location. The problem arises because Dell SupportAssist runs as an admin so attackers also get complete access to your PC or Laptop.
