There have been a lot of new features added to Facebook and we have seen the platform grow due to this reason. One cool feature that has been available for a long time on the platform are 3D images. Basically, these are the images which you can see in the third dimension and that gives you a real feel to the 2D image.

However, there was one limitation to posting 3D images on Facebook which was that you could only add portrait mode photos to the platform. So users who did not have portrait mode capability were not able to upload 3D images on Facebook.

Facebook also used the depth data from your phone and the image’s EXIF to create a parallax effect which would look trippy and cool at the same time. The company now allows any type of photo to be uploaded even if they are not shot in portrait mode. This is because Facebook will do this task on their own of creating a background blur or creating a parallax effect.

The company says that they will now use AI to create this effect rather than relying on the phone’s depth data which might not be available on every device. With this limitation gone, we will see a lot more 3D photos on Facebook and that includes objects and paintings too which will have a parallax effect of its own.

As for the feature’s availability, Facebook says that iPhone 7 or higher will be able to support this feature. Also, recent mid-range and high-end Android smartphones will be able to take advantage of this feature. Since the feature is not available to every device yet, it is possible that it could be missing from your phone. But do not worry as it will arrive soon on most devices.
