Facebook ‘Shops’ announced; all you need to know about them

Facebook Shops

Facebook Shops

You must have heard that Facebook is a marketplace as well along with being the biggest social media platform of all times. This is because Facebook lets people post items for sale on their platform where people can contact them and buy those items. Thus, we can say that Facebook Marketplace is also a huge deal right now.

But Facebook as a company is looking to take things up a notch with the launch of a new feature called Shops. Well, if you want to know what Facebook Shops is in simpler terms than it is a competitor to Shopify.

For example, Shopify is a platform which provides owners with the ability to start their online sales by allowing them to create stores on the platform while charging a fixed amount every month. Same is the case with Facebook Shops as business owners will be able to create stores on the platform and list their items on their “Shops”.

The major difference, however, is in the business model of Facebook and Shopify. Facebook says that they will not charge businesses for creating their shops but they will show ads to make revenue from there.

This is possible for Facebook and not for Shopify because Facebook is already a huge company with companies such as Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and others in its arsenal whereas Shopify was a startup in its early days. By this, you will also know that Facebook Shops will also come to WhatsApp and Instagram.

The company informs that Shops can be seen on “Facebook pages and Instagram profiles of businesses’. They will also appear in stories or in ads”. In order to take advantage of Facebook’s communication platforms, “Shops also lets you message a business through WhatsApp, Messenger, or Instagram Direct to ask questions, get support, and track deliveries.”
