Google Hints Its First Smartwatch With The Codenames ‘Salmon’ And ‘Medaka’

Google smartwatch

Although last year Google denied many rumors about the launch of a smartwatch nicknamed Pixel Watch, it seems that this year there are more chances that the company moves chips within the sector of smartwatches. Recently, several sources claim that they have come up with the code names of the first smartwatches of the brand: Salmon and Medaka.

The year 2019 began with several important developments in the Wear OS watch industry. Apart from the arrival of new smartwatches during CES 2019, the company also announced the purchase of an unprecedented technology from the watchmaker Fossil Group.

All this is just an indication that the year 2019 could finally be the year that Google will incorporate ECG sensors and more advanced monitoring technologies into their smartwatches,. It was something very important to be able to keep pace with the Apple Watch functions.

Salmon And Medaka, The Supposed Code Names Of Google’s First Smartwatch

But apart from all this, some sources say that Google will also launch its own smartwatches with many functions to match or even exceed the repertoire of features of the Apple Watch Series 4.

As reported by the guys at XDA forum, within the documentation of Android Open Source Project, a developer has discovered two very curious codenames, Salmon and Medaka, the nickname of Pixel 2 released in 2017. In addition, the Lawnchair Launcher developer, Till Kottmann, also recently published a tweet where he claims that Medaka’s name probably refers to Pixel Watch. With respect to the Salmon, it could be some model of the same series.

Obviously, at this point everything is pure speculation and they are trying to get clues about the existence of these watches from all kinds of documentation and logs. But what is clear is that sooner or later Google will end up launching its own smartwatch. If it does this year, the month of October could be the time of its launch, since it is the period when the company usually presents all its news in terms of mobile devices.
