Google Pixel 2 Confirmed With Premium Tag

Just when Google Pixel and its big brother is slowly gaining popularity, Rick Osterloh, who is the brain behind the Pixel devices at Google has confirmed the launch of the next edition rumored as Pixel 2. At the MWC 2017, Eric Herrman of Android Pit had met Osterloh and discussed the future roadmap of Google in addition to several key facts.

During the interaction with Eric, Osterloh had confirmed that there would be a successor to the Pixel. He declined to provide any clues about the expected launch date but adds the punch line “Pixel stays premium.” Eric took to Twitter and shared a short video where he introduces the person behind Pixel. After that, Osterloh turned up and said something focussed on the next model of Pixel.

Google Pixel 2 Can Be Expected in 2017

Eric reportedly posted several questions to Osterloh regarding the lessons Google learned from the manufacture of Pixel phone. Moreover, he also asked about the problems associated with the currently available handsets and the steps taken by the company to rectify the defects.

Google Pixel 2 will be different

Based on the rumors, the upcoming iteration of Pixel will be equipped with premium specifications with the possibility of adding an expandable storage, OLED display (to compete with iPhone 8) and enhanced storage up to 512GB capacity. We expect the phone to hit the retail shelves in October 2017.

Severe shortage of spares hits Google

According to Osterloh, there is a massive demand for Pixel handsets, but supplies are low due to acute shortage of spare parts. Hence, the chances of manufacturing additional units of Pixel series handsets are slim. It looks like Google has manufactured only a fixed quantity of Pixel.

Google Pixel was released with high expectations in 2016. The phone was the first to ship pre-loaded with Android 7.0 Nougat. Hence, the initial cost was a tad high at the time of the release. The 32GB storage variant of the handset is currently available on Amazon USA for $755, which is very high for a device with a 5-inch display. Moreover, you will not be able to expand the storage. Hence, you have to contend with the default space for the installation of apps. Moreover, the integration of 2770mAh battery in Google Pixel is also low when compared to the latest industry standards.
