Huawei has had a rough time lately with the US authorities as well as the regulations imposed by them for smartphone operations. We have known that Huawei devices were banned from operating in the country earlier this year. However, this ban was lifted earlier last month.
Now, Huawei devices have caught up with a new trouble. This time it is related to the Google Play Store on Huawei smartphones. Talking about this latest trouble, Huawei devices are now restricted to download the VLC Media Player from Google Play Store.
The VLC Media Player is owned by VideoLAN’s which is a very popular video player available for Android. Also, VLC Media Player is free for Android and is open-source as well meaning that it supports almost all the codecs out there. Now, the reason for Huawei devices not being able to download VLC Media Player is because VideoLAN has blacklisted Huawei devices. The reason for blacklisting, as mentioned by the company, is to avoid negative reviews on its Play Store listing.
If you see the VLC Media Player listing on the Google Play Store, you will see that most of the negative reviews are from Huawei users. The users have been complaining that VLC doesn’t work properly on their device.
Also, the company already explained why the Huawei devices don’t run VLC Media Player properly. The reason is that Huawei kills background apps very aggressively whereas VLC is intended to keep running in the background. Now that you have known why Huawei devices are not able to run VLC Media Player properly, you can install the application.
The only problem is that you have to sideload the apk file on your Huawei devices. Also, you need to install the version updates manually as well. Moreover, VideoLAN has mentioned that the recent Huawei devices have been blacklisted only while the older devices will still be able to download the app from Google Play Store.
