Instagram, the Facebook-owned company famous for photo and video sharing has just launched a new feature to its platform. This new feature is related to showing an online sign whenever a user is on Instagram so that their friends can be notified about it.
Now, this feature was already present in the Facebook Messenger from a long time ago where it showed a green dot next to the profile to show that they are online. Also, this feature is present on WhatsApp but it can only be seen inside a particular chat. The application of this feature on Instagram is the same as Facebook where it shows a green dot next to the user’s profile.
Now, we also know that Instagram recently launched its new video uploading platform known as IGTV. Here, users can upload their videos and gain viewership and build an audience. This is seen as a direct competition to YouTube which is gaining massive popularity by each passing day.
However, IGTV is limited to vertical videos only due to it being a mobile platform so creators are finding it hard to switch to IGTV. But, it is quite evident that Instagram is looking to grow its platform more and more to increase its user base.
Instagram has named its latest green dot feature as Activity Status. Now, this feature will also create some controversy as well. Because many users on Instagram like to keep their identity as well as current activity as secret as possible and Activity status will show others when they are online.
But, you should note that it is possible to switch Activity Status off from the Settings of the application. This means that you can not see anyone’s Activity Status but the main advantage is that you can hide your Activity Status from others as well.
