Latest WhatsApp update for Android brings more privacy controls

We have seen that Facebook has been criticized time and again for its privacy or non-privacy matters. This is because the company has been notorious in recent past regarding hacking, leaking user data as well as election matters.

Now, Facebook decided to buy WhatsApp some years back and people were very skeptical about WhatsApp’s future due to this reason.

It was assumed that Facebook would take full control of WhatsApp and user’s privacy will be threatened as well. However, it has turned out that WhatsApp is still doing what it does best which is giving privacy for its users.

Unlike its parent company, WhatsApp keeps on adding privacy features to the app and does not show ads to date. But we are hearing that WhatsApp will start showing ads in the Stories feature from next year. So if you don’t want ads to show up on WhatsApp, make sure to not use the Stories feature.

On the other hand, we should also note that WhatsApp has added end-to-end encryption the same as every other Facebook app right now. But WhatsApp adds another feature related to user’s privacy regarding adding to groups.

You must be aware that currently, WhatsApp allows anyone and everyone to add you to the group they like. Now, the only option left for you is to leave the group which comes off as rude and sometimes insulting for people.

Therefore, WhatsApp has now added privacy controls so that you can only let your close friends add you to a group. If someone else out of the allowed people tries to add you to the group, you are given the option to accept or deny the request instead of getting added immediately.

From now on, you can set who can add you to the group from these options: Everyone, My Contacts, or My Contacts Except by going to Accounts > Privacy > Groups from WhatsApp Settings.
