Lenovo has come into the discussion once again with its new patent. With many smartphone manufacturers launching foldable phones, Lenovo has also patented a foldable phone design for themselves.

Now, the patent does not mean that the smartphone from Lenovo is in development. But it does reveal a whole new design of the foldable smartphone. Lenovo’s patent includes a hinge design for its foldable smartphone. This hinge is similar to Microsoft’s Surface Book hinge.

Previously, it was reported that Lenovo will be the first company to launch a foldable smartphone. As the company was already working on a foldable device since last year. However, the company must have faced some issues and turns out, Samsung became the first company to launch a foldable smartphone. Later, Huawei also released its first 5G foldable smartphone named Mate X. But it does not mean that Lenovo is not working on its foldable phone anymore.

In fact, the patent submission from Lenovo also proves that the company is working hard for its foldable design. This patent was filed in the USPTO which is U.S. patent trademark office since September 2018. Since then, the patent has been pending and is listed on USPTO’s website.

Now, we must say that the patent design looks similar to Samsung’s foldable phone, the Galaxy Fold. Because the Lenovo patent also shows an inward-folding design. But there is a hinge which gives rigidness and more structural uniformity to the design.

Now, it must also be said that Lenovo’s foldable smartphone is not a true foldable smartphone. As the hinge connects the two screens on either side rather than the display folding into the half. Reports also suggest that this could be a foldable tablet or just a tablet with a hinge from Lenovo as well. Also, Lenovo is even looking to make this foldable smartphone slimmest out of the rest, reveals patent.
