OnePlus announced their latest flagship, OnePlus 6T, last month worldwide. Also, the company has announced that they have made tremendous progress in bringing 5G support to their devices. OnePlus also made a tweet claiming that it is the world’s first tweet sent from a 5G network. The company has also revealed plans for launching 5G smartphone next year.

Therefore, everyone believes that the OnePlus 7 will come with 5G support. Interestingly, this has also affected the sale of OnePlus 6T. Because people are willing to wait to get the future-proof 5G support on their device.

However, in a major turn of events, OnePlus has different plans. The company’s spokesperson recently chatted with CNET. In the interview, he said that the OnePlus 7 will not have 5G support. Rather, the 5G-equipped smartphone from OnePlus will come in a different lineup.

This goes in line with the earlier rumours that OnePlus may launch a new smartphone at MWC 2019.  Therefore, if you are waiting for the OnePlus 7 in hope that it will have 5G support then don’t hold your breath. However, we expect the OnePlus 7T to have 5G support.

The reason behind this if we think on OnePlus’ behalf would be that 5G is not a tried and tested technology at all. Therefore, if there are any issues then the company’s flagship may well be ruined for at least the next six months.  Thus, the OnePlus 7T may not feature 5G support if the technology is not matured by then. If the 5G functionality picks up, they can have a winner on their hands.

For the current OnePlus smartphone buyers, if you are waiting for OnePlus 7 with 5G support than it is not going to happen. So you can easily get your hands on the OnePlus 6T and be happy with your buying decision. If you are holding off on the OnePlus 6T due to different reasons such as no headphone jack or in-display fingerprint scanner than OnePlus 6 is still a great buy.
