Samsung Coming with their own Graphics Processors for Budget Phones

Samsung Exynos smartphone processor

Samsung has been building their own processors for their smartphones for a long time. Now they are going to start building their own in-house graphics processing units. For the start, we can find several different listings from Samsung on LinkedIn for GPU engineer jobs, which was found by WinFuture.de. As we know that the top of the line smartphones goes well with the Mali GPU’s with the Exynos chip, Samsung would not like to get their hands dirty there.

Currently, they are going to try the new chips with the budget and low-end devices and further after can start building GPU’s for high-end devices and autonomous cars. Most of their GPU’s currently are sourced from ARMs, while rest is the Adreno GPU’s used with Snapdragon SoCs.

As we know Samsung have been known for producing most of the components of the devices on its own in order to save more money on the device. Currently, the company manufactures the Memories which include RAM‘s and Storage, display, and processors. This might not sound enough for Samsung hence they are now starting with the GPU’s also which can further bring the prices down by a huge margin. Hence we might see much better competition from Samsung in the budget range.

Samsung’s consumer segment from past couple of years are not generating huge revenues as compared to its display and semiconductor department. If this turns out to be true we might get world’s first company to in-house develop the graphics chips for their devices. This will give a huge benefit to Samsung as compared to Huawei, Oppo, Xiaomi, and other brands.

Although they will still take a lot of time to get this into the real thing. Currently, ARM and Qualcomm both are into the segment from decades which makes Samsung new with graphic processors. Hence they will first like to have their experience with the production and then start with the large-scale production.
