Samsung Galaxy S8

After widespread rumors and hype, Samsung Galaxy S8 is now officially released along with the big brother Galaxy S8+. Samsung has integrated premium features and specifications. On the other hand, LG G6 ships with a 5.7-inch display and improved specifications. In this article, we will compare the specifications of Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6 with reference to display, performance, camera, battery including pricing.

Display

Samsung Galaxy S8 features a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protected display. The phone offers a resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels coupled with a pixel density of 570 PPI. If you look at LG G6, the handset is equipped with a 5.7-inch IPS Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protected display with a resolution of 1440 x 2880 pixels alongside 564PPI pixel density.

Performance

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy S8 offers a powerful Snapdragon 835 processor, Adreno 540 graphics, 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. However, the product packages shipped to EMEA markets will bear Exynos 8895 processor. Meanwhile, LG G6 features a Snapdragon 821 processor, Adreno 530 graphics, 4GB RAM paired with 32GB and 64GB internal storage. You will be able to extend the storage up to 256GB in both Galaxy S8 and LG G6 smartphones.

Camera

On the optics front, the Galaxy S8 is integrated with a 12MP sensor paired with 8MP front-facing shooter. The phone provides support for OIS, PDAF, and LED Flash. Interestingly, both rear and front camera offers f/1.7 aperture. With the 8MP front camera, you can shoot 1440p at 30 fps with support for dual video call capability. If you are a real photography geek, you should check out LG G6 since it contains dual 13MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture and f/2.4 aperture respectively. However, the selfie camera provides a 5MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture.

Battery

While Samsung Galaxy S8 bears a 3000mAh battery, the LG G6 is powered by a 3300mAh battery, which is higher than the Galaxy S8. However, we haven’t tested the battery in real-time and hence not in a position to judge the real power. We hope the Galaxy S8 will do justice since the processor is designed using 10nm manufacturing process.

Advanced features

Samsung Galaxy S8 includes Bixby virtual assistant with dust and waterproof protection via IP68 technology. LG G6 provides protection against dust and water through IP68.

Platform

Both Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6 ships pre-loaded with Android Nougat. Hence, you can take advantage of the new features of the latest platform.

Price

Samsung Galaxy S8 is available starting $720 via various mobile service providers. However, LG G6 is priced at $719.99. Samsung has tied up with various mobile carriers to drive sales.

Verdict

If you would like to purchase a smartphone with latest specifications such as Snapdragon 835 processor, improved front camera and features such as digital assistant, you should consider Samsung Galaxy S8. Since there is not much price difference between Galaxy S8 and LG G6, you should opt for Samsung Galaxy S8. There is no point in spending $720 for a smartphone with Snapdragon 821 processor.
