Samsung Galaxy Fold

Samsung had earlier announced the launch of its foldable smartphone. As expected, Samsung launched its first foldable smartphone at the MWC 2019. Now, Samsung’s foldable smartphone also became one of the first foldable smartphones in the world as well. This foldable smartphone was named as the Galaxy Fold.

As we know, foldable smartphone technology is in its very early stages. Samsung is just the second OEM to have launched a foldable smartphone. This is after the Royole Flexpai was launched by Royole. Therefore the Galaxy Fold has been priced at a premium as of now. Samsung has announced its Galaxy Fold will retail for $1981 worldwide.

However, Samsung is also looking to outsource its foldable technology too. This means that the company is looking to supply its foldable display to other OEMs. As a part of this, Samsung has sent samples of its foldable displays to major companies around the world. According to reports, Samsung has already sent those samples to Google and Apple.

There were reports earlier regarding Apple working on its foldable iPhone. This foldable iPhone is expected to come out in late 2020. Apart from that, we might also see Google’s next Pixel come with a foldable display. But that might not be possible due to its high price at the moment. Although, we will certainly see more foldable smartphones by next year. Currently, Samsung has bundled a foldable OLED display on its Galaxy Fold.

Thus, Apple has been in talks to get the supplies of foldable displays from Samsung. As it stands right now, Samsung and Huawei are the only smartphone manufacturers who have a foldable smartphone. These are the Galaxy Fold and the Mate X respectively. Thus, Apple might soon launch a foldable iPhone which will be seen as a direct competitor to the Galaxy Fold. Apple’s 2019 iPhones, however, will still have fixed panels.
