Spotify is one of the biggest companies in the music streaming industry and it is one of the most influential brands which has almost stopped people from downloading songs. Now, this means that the piracy of songs has reduced greatly as well as data plans around the world have played their part too. Now, we know that Apple also has a similar service called Apple Music offering music playback online similar to Google’s YouTube Music which was earlier Google Play Music. Talking about Apple Music, in particular, Apple added live lyrics in the app with the launch of iOS 13.
This means that when the song is playing, you will also see the lyrics of that particular song being played and syncing with the song as well. Basically, this is similar to the song lyrics app we had in the past which would highlight the exact words currently playing for the song. Now, it is interesting to note that Spotify is testing the same feature for its app as well. You will soon be able to see real-time lyrics inside the Spotify app syncing with the song you are playing.
TechCrunch reports that this feature is currently seen in limited regions so it might be a staged rollout for the test phase. Spotify also confirmed that they are indeed working on such a feature for its app and it is done “in a small number of markets”. Spotify’s spokesperson added that “At Spotify, we are always testing new products and experiences but have no further news to share at this time.”
As far as the lyrics inside Spotify are concerned, they are part of the integration with Musixmatch which is an app showing real-time lyrics for songs. Therefore, Spotify is outsourcing lyrics from third-party as well but it is a welcome change none the less.
