Facebook has finally announced one of its major features. This feature was announced at its F8 Developer Conference which commenced yesterday. Facebook has announced that users will be able to chat across its different platforms soon. This is a major step towards interoperability on the part of Facebook. With the help of this, you will no longer need to switch between different platforms to chat with your friends.

Talking about these platforms, Facebook has announced that you will be able to chat across Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram. This is because all three apps are part of Facebook’s suite of messaging apps. As all of these apps are meant to communicate with users, this is a step in the right direction.

However, Facebook seems to have not decided yet how this feature will be implemented. Because the company did not reveal any timeline or sneak peek regarding its upcoming feature. Facebook’s reasoning behind this feature is one that makes sense though. The company says that “We believe people should be able to talk to anyone anywhere,”

Also, they gave an example of how users are able to call users across different carriers. Similarly, users should be able to message people across different platforms as well. This is also seemingly a dig at Apple’s iMessage which is available to users on iOS only. Although you can receive iMessage on Android, you have a different chat colour for those messages and it is extremely restricted.

On the other hand, we are not sure when Facebook will actually roll out this feature for its users. Because Mark Zuckerberg said yesterday that the feature will take quite some time to be implemented. This means that we are unlikely to see this feature coming to our devices at least for this year. Therefore, we should expect to use this feature by next year or later.
