Vivo is a smartphone manufacturer that has gone under the radar recently because of fewer smartphone announcements lately. While others from BBK Electronics such as Oppo, OnePlus, Realme have launched phones, Vivo was not that active. However, that is about to change with a new announcement from Vivo regarding its plans. Vivo has now said that they are working on a new smartphone with Exynos 980 processor inside it.

This report, however, dismisses an earlier report which suggested Vivo is making its own processor. The interesting part about Exynos 980 processor from Samsung is that it is the first chip to have 5G modem inside it. This obviously means that Vivo’s smartphone will have 5G support in-built. While the current crop of 5G smartphones has to have a 5G modem separately, Samsung and Huawei’s latest chips make them redundant. This also means that instead of a separate modem, you can add a bigger battery inside the phone which is needed due to more power consumption by 5G.

As per the details shared by Samsung regarding its Exynos 980, the processor can give you download speeds up to 2.55Gbps using the sub-6GHz standard. Also, it is capable of combining 4G and 5G networks to hit a downlink speed of up to 3.5Gbps. The best thing about Vivo’s first 5G smartphone is that it is coming in late 2019 which means you can get your hands on a 5G smartphone from the company in 2019 itself.

However, we can also say that the smartphone might not go on sale before the start of 2020 globally. Also, there are very few countries in which 5G network is operational which are necessary to take advantage of 5G networks. Also, it is expected that a whole bunch of smartphones will launch next year with 5G support. Thus, we also expect the prices of 54G-supported phones to go down by next year.
