WhatsApp rolls out new feature which lets users decide which groups they want to join

WhatsApp, the social messaging app, which has been hugely popular gets a new feature. This new feature is to avoid fake news spreading on the platform. Currently, the problem within WhatsApp groups is that anyone can add you to a particular group. You have no option but to join the group and then you can opt out of the group once you have joined. However, with the latest feature, you have the option to set who can add you to any group.

From now on, group admins will not be able to add you to any group automatically. The group admins will have to take your permission for adding you to any group. This feature has now been announced by WhatsApp when the company sent out a press release saying:

“WhatsApp groups continue to connect family, friends, coworkers, classmates and more. As people turn to groups for important conversations, users have asked for more control over their experience. Today, we’re introducing a new privacy setting and invite system to help you decide who can add you to groups.”

This also means that the feature has not been rolled out yet. But the update will come to all the devices in near future. Also, we now have an idea how this feature works. First of all, when a group admin wants to add you then he will send you a private message. Once you accept that request, you will then be added to the group.

Now, you will find this feature hidden in WhatsApp’s settings. In the WhatsApp settings, you need to go to the Accounts section. From the Accounts section, click on Privacy and select Groups section. Here, you will have the option to select from “Nobody,” “My Contacts” or “Everyone”. If you select Nobody then nobody will be able to add you to the group whereas if you select everyone, everyone will be able to add you as present. On selecting My Contacts, only your contacts will be able to add you to any group.
