One thing that we are yet to see being picked up in the smartphone industry is the trend of making blockchain-powered smartphones. While HTC has made its Exodus phones which are powered by blockchain, no other company has even tried to do something similar.

This shows that the demand for blockchain-powered smartphones is very less which means that the companies are not interested in making them for a limited audience. At the same time, it can be sold well if marketed properly because we know that the security on a blockchain-powered smartphone will be much greater than on standard phones.

Nonetheless, we have our first modular smartphone which is also a blockchain-powered one which is named as BOB. Basically, we saw the first glimpse of this phone at the CES 2019 and now, at the CES 2020, it has become an Innovation Award Honoree.

Talking about modular smartphones, it also a trend which did not pick up while the Project Tango announcement from Google was quite exciting at that.

Developed by Pundi X, BOB or Blok on Blok is the world’s first modular smartphone which means you can change the parts of this smartphone without having to open anything. BOB runs on Function X OS, which is an open-source operating system.

As we mentioned earlier, Blockchain-based phones are the most secure ones and every task on the phone, like sending texts, making calls, browsing the web, and file sharing, all happen on a decentralized network, making it highly encrypted and secure.

As far as the internals of BOB is concerned, we currently know that it runs on Android and the current version of Android it is running is Android 9.0 Pie. It has a 3300 mAh battery and it does support wireless charging. You also get a fingerprint sensor, 3.5-mm headphone jack and also a Bluetooth with dual-SIM support on the phone so you can use it for daily usage.
