Xiaomi showed off its folding phone prototype earlier this year. This was when Samsung and Huawei hadn’t announced their foldable phones in the market. Now, the Galaxy Fold from Samsung and Huawei Mate X have been announced. This means Xiaomi has to seriously step up its production and announce its foldable phone soon. Right as planned, Xiaomi seems to have once again teased its foldable phone to the world. This is because of a 10-second video posted by Xiaomi on its Weibo channel.
Later, this video was uploaded to YouTube by CNet which has been embedded above. In this short-yet-enough video, we can clearly see Xiaomi’s foldable phone in action. As seen earlier, Xiaomi has adopted a foldable technique which folds inwards. This means that there is no need of a secondary display on the outside. In the unfolded state, Xiaomi’s foldable phone becomes a tablet. When folded, you can use this smartphone as a normal smartphone. But it does look like a different aspect ratio smartphone then 16:9.
On the other hand, one noticeable change is the jankiness of Xiaomi’s UI which is now gone. We can notice that this smartphone also runs on MIUI. In the previous video, we could see that the UI on Xiaomi’s foldable phone was not at its best. However, Xiaomi’s engineers seem to have found a solution of that issue. In the above video, the UI transitions between the unfolded state to folded state with ease and within seconds.
Also, we are getting reports about its price too. Samsung’s Galaxy Fold will be available at a whopping $1981 whereas Huawei Mate X will be sold for $2600. We can’t blame Samsung or Huawei as well because the foldable displays are currently very expensive. However, Xiaomi seems to have managed to undercut the prices here too. Xiaomi, according to rumours, will sell its foldable phone at $999.
