We have seen that the face scanning technology on smartphones has advanced so much that people have started to use it as a primary way to unlock their smartphones. Now, this also means that you want to use the same on other devices too. Therefore, Apple has brought the same to their iPads while Microsoft already includes the same on its Surface devices. We now know that the face scanning technology has come into the mainstream as per a report. This report is regarding the Chinese subway stations where you can pay for your tickets just by scanning your face.

While we know that China is leading the world when it comes to technology, they also implement the same in their day-to-day life. As a part of this, we knew that China uses facial recognition to catch criminals and for attendance system in classes. Now, this system has been brought to the Chinese subway stations. The report also mentions that this system lets “people over 60 years of age register themselves for free subway rides”.

Currently, this system has deployed in Shenzen, China, at “18 stations with 28 automatic gate machines and 60 self-service ticket processors”. However, the system will be added to more subway stations if everything goes according to plan. China also plans to include army veterans for a free subway ride via its facial recognition system. But this also shows that China keeps a record of almost everything regarding a person including their facial data.

According to one report, 500 commuters are paying fares by scanning their faces every day in the Jinan city which tells you about the popularity of this system. Sending money and payments through facial recognition is also common in China with apps such as Alipay and WeChat pay. You can also find Kiosks for doing the same in China from above-mentioned companies.
