Face Scanning in China

Face Scanning in China

You might be aware of the fact that China is one country where the internet is curbed a lot, as well as the privacy of its internet users, is not that greatly maintained. While we do know that Russia and China have banned Google for a long time, China has been notorious about other companies too. As far as China is concerned, you must also note that the country has started to use face-scanning technology for identification of its citizens as well. There are airports, bus terminals and other places in China where you can make payments, get entry as well as other verification with just your face.

Now, a new report has emerged out of China which states that the country now has a provision to get your face scanned for signing up to phone services too. In other parts of the world, we know that it is mandatory to show your ID card so that your identity will be matched against the mobile service that you are using. But in China, you will now have to show your ID card as well as scan your face to get a new mobile service.

The reason behind taking this measure by the government is said to be a fraud-prevention method but we know that this will also make it harder for you to use services anonymously. Basically, China wants to know each and every one of its network users and doesn’t want to let anyone use its services without revealing their details.

Not only is the privacy of its users at risk, but these face scans will also help the Chinese government in clamping down on users to cut their network down if they want. However, we have also noticed that people of China are also opposing the face-scanning from its government which has forced the Chinese authorities to tone down a little in this regards.
